I loved the tension that is building throughout this story. The man's desperately trying to light a fire but is unsuccessful in every attempt. Throughout the story you see the man go from confident, to panicking because of his need for a fire. The author explains it in a way that makes you feel as if you were in the position of the man, and I could feel myself in the story. I won't explain the ending, but this is one that I would highly recommend.

While there were a few cute ideas in this book, most are so specific that the ideas cannot be applied in ways that are not exactly like the projects he used. Also, most are really garish and somewhat scary (as in, I and everyone I know would not ever want these things in our homes).

This is the other awesome book Julia got me for Christmas by a female Navajo author--I like this collection even better than Laura Tohe's, as Luci Tapahonso has an amazing way with words in her poetry. Her writing is much more grounded in traditional Diné living, with some pieces being retellings of traditional myths. Another awesome bit of awesomeness from my amazing sister!

If you enjoy lots of action, witches, vampires, and other unusual creatures, you’ll find them here. I would not recommend this book for young teens, however, because of the language.
