I have reread this book many many times... It takes place during the 20's and 30's in the life of a circus performer and the family that he joins to become a famous trapezee artist. This is an amazing look at circus history over several decades as well as about love both romantic and familial. It was one of the best books ever.

The letters and recipes annoyed me because I had no desire to cook these out- dated recipes and the food element did not add anything to the storyline other than an occasional recipe named after something in the characters' lives. The letters themselves mostly were whining about parents and these supposed friends not getting along.

This book ends a far distance from where it begins. While it's a rollicking adventure with solid writing, it never stays long enough in one theme or setting to fully explore what's going on there. By the end of it, I felt a bit cross-eyed over the character's journey. It is an adventure at its core, though romance factors into it near the end. I was not entirely sure who the heroine would end up with, if anyone, and when she finally made a choice, I wasn't entirely sure why she chose that man specifically. It was an enjoyable read, but I don't see myself picking it up again in the future.

i don't think i really care for kafka's writing style. i mean, it's really intricate and has a lot of run on sentences. i would start reading a sentence and by the end i had forgotten where it began. i had to keep rereading sentences. "the metamorphosis" - i liked this one. felt bad for gregor. still hate cockroaches. i also liked "before the law." other than that i kept getting sleepy eyes while reading this book.

I was really worried about this book. For one, I'm just plain sick of zombies (with very few exceptions) and have been since they remade Dawn of the Dead in 2004. I guess I more so hate the mainstream zombie craze that started shortly after proving that no one can think for themselves and like whatever they're presented with. The Walking Dead TV show sucks by the way. Secondly, I'm not a Vegan, nor a vegetarian for that matter. Hell, I really love meat! I had this book sitting on my shelf for a while now and finally decided to read it. I really thought this book was going to come off preachy, but I was extremely surprised that it didn't. It actually raises a lot of good points and makes you think. The biggest one is why we as humans value ourselves so highly. In the grand scheme of things we are nothing. We are destroyers of this planet. People really should purposely stop breeding, at least for the sake of population control. YOU DON'T NEED 8 KIDS, YOU INCOMPETENT WHORE! Anyway, David Agranoff's "The Vegan Revolution...with Zombies" is a breath of fresh air. He knows the zombie genre is played out so he sticks with the roots cramming in tons of nerd knowledge for the people who liked the genre before it was trendy. Plus there's a healthy dose of hipster bashing along the way. This made me smile. A LOT. Oh yeah, and Juggalos! I sincerely thank you David for putting Juggalos in your book. I was honestly waiting for a Bizarro writer to finally touch on the subject of Juggalos. Thank you. In closing, this book KICKS ASS! If you're on the fence, READ IT!

This was my favorite book of the series so far. I found the action to be riveting and the pace was great. I couldn't put it down until I finished it at 2:30 am. In this book, Leo is working through his delore (grieving over his dead son) and no longer blames Jane for his son's death. In fact, he hires her to be part of his security and she moves her things to New Orleans. In the last book, she made the choice between Bruiser and Rick. Since Bruiser is Leo's blood-servant, she knows that she will always play second fiddle to Leo and chooses Rick. The book begins with Rick and Jane having been dating for a month, but unable to spend a lot of time with each other because of their busy jobs. After Rick misses a breakfast date and then falls out of touch for days, Jane suspects that he had to go back undercover. On top of worrying for Rick, the werewolves and were-cats have come to town - the cats to parlay with Leo and the New Orleans vamps, and the werewolves to stir up trouble. As part of Leo's security team, Jane has her work cut out for her. To assist, she brings in her big guns, Derek Lee and his ex-military crew. I really like Derek and his team - they are professional, high-speed, badass marines. I would say that the only part of the books that goes a little slow for me, is when it is told from Beast's POV. I find that starts to get a bit tedious. But I am exciting for the way the book ended and can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
