Honestly speaking, this felt like one of most difficult books I have ever read. Having started and stopped this book several times, I force fed myself Tropic of Cancer yet again, determined to get past page forty. So I read on, at times mired in the brilliance of Millers imagery and provocative prose (for the 1930s) yet frequently finding myself equally lost amidst his fragmented thoughts and misogynistic opinions. An appreciation for creative explosive free thought is a must when reading this novel. Admittedly, I have grown accustomed to reading novels with linear story lines, character development, and more importantly... a point. All obviously vacant from this novel, but perhaps herein lies the beauty of Millers writing. The sooner you stop looking for a point the sooner you begin to enjoy the book. Approach the reading with curbed ideals and allow yourself to get mixed up in characters debauchery. It is an interesting and fuck-all perspective, which at times can be very relieving and exciting. Unfortunately, I did not find the entire book that uniformly enthralling. The raucous beginning really grabs hold of you as you start to experience Millers style of writing. Fast, kinetic, beautiful, filthy, and random... which can last far too long in some sections. But around the midway point the novel begins to settle down and start coming together. The ride slows down just enough for you to look around, catch your breath, and regroup. Relationships start to develop (slightly) and you get to join in on several small chaotic journeys with Miller. I found the second half of this novel to be a perfect blend of tattered brilliance and solid writing. Although slow on occasion, I have the utmost admiration for Miller as a wordsmith. Oddly enough, having enjoyed the second half so much I was annoyed with myself for glazing over parts of the beginning. I could definitely see myself rereading this down the road and perhaps heightening my appreciation. I would recommend this to anyone who appreciates free thought writing and is looking for a little heavier read. Coinciding a lighter book may help to break up the monotony and enhance the appreciation of Millers unique offbeat style.

** spoiler alert ** I enjoyed reading this book. I love animals and could easily picture someone with a pet penguin...even though I know that is not realistic. I thought the book had a great story line and enough suspense to keep you turning pages. I was disappointed in the ending though. I will have to pick up the next book in the series to see what happens to poor Misha.

Bri had to explain to me that their magic time was them masturbating together. Judy Blume, so scandalous!

I liked this book. After the first hundred or so pages which were slow going the pace really picked up and then I couldn't put it down. The plot twists were incredibly obvious, but I don't think the point was to tell an original story. The point was in the style of the telling. Anyway, if you don't like the art of storytelling then you probably won't like this book. But if you appreciate atmosphere and period novels and betrayal, then you might like it.

This book was definitely a mind-changer. I'm not much of a poetry person, so the thought of this book being written in "poetic verse" was not very appealing to me, but the book was definitely written in a way that made it accessible in easy-to-read shorts bursts. By writing in poems, the author is able to include very descriptive, philosophical views on events. Now that I've talked about the style of writing, let's get to the core of the book. It is essentially about people's relationships with each other. In telling the story of extramarital affairs, the author doesn't disguise any of the details, nor does she really condone or condemn the women. And I like that. It's good to be able to read it without bias from the writer. All Hopkins does is let us know why things happen, and from that, we as readers can draw our own conclusions. One thing that I am not satisfied with is the ending. Nothing seems to really conclude itself. But, I also understand why Hopkins would choose to end the book like that; life is not that easy and problems do not appear and then solve themselves as easy as 1-2-3. This book is amazing, it really puts you into the three women's place - their situations and their feelings and reasoning behind every action. Being young myself, I feel like I have definitely learned something about life and love by reading this book.

This book was amazing!! I was hooked from page one and was almost drooling over the possibilities! I didn't completely figure the plot out until the last page. It keeps you hooked and guessing from the start. I didn't know who to trust and who to believe! This is a good read for those of you who like suspense! I could and will probably read this one again!!

Rick Riordan, I'm sorry but I didn't like this book. I like the way Percy's perspective is and Jason isn't that great of a character. I loved the Percy Jackson series, its humor and action and GREEK GODS!! HECKZ YEAH! ...and then there were Roman Gods...I don't like. But I want to read this book.
