I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. It's such an interesting story and an interesting way to tell a story. I love the switch from 3rd to 1st person narration. So original.

This book was entertaining. It was not believeable. I guessed the murderer pretty early on. It was very OVER THE TOP. I just read in the Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine that this was up for an award - Best First Novel by an American Writer - it didn't win. I have to say this book was nothing more than okay. The characters choices definately made me cringe through out the book but I don't think that makes it a good book.

Okay, I figured writing more reviews would be good so I am going to start with the one, the only TWILIGHT!! *everybody cheers and gasps...oh my* Anyways... This book was okay. I mean it was very predictable but I also took into account that it wasn't written for teenage guys ;). So I had to give it a three, PLUS the storyline kind of intrigued to read on. Also, the writing itself was not that good. Again, though its all about audience and Meyer was writing to pre-teen/teen girls who normally wouldn't notice her writing style. Overall it was a decent book, not amazing, but again not meant for me :D.

I will read this again. I absolutely loved it....it felt like fiction, but far from it. So powerful and enlightening. I had no idea the martyred life that Tyndale lead. I loved it, can you tell.

Another good weaving of history and today - the lives of a family's women and the decisions they must make, the consequences, and finding their ways. Good, good book!

Even though the subject matter of this book is a difficult and disgusting one - sex trafficking - Steig's ability to craft a story around the subject matter with brutal honesty, gracefulness, and tantilating transparency is truly amazing. Stieg is not only a master story teller but a master story crafter. This is not one of those books that necessarily jumps off the first page. Instead Stieg slowly and methodically lays out the background, all the while slowly realing in his reader. And none of that background is wasted. Not one line. Just when you find yourself deeply entangled in the story, it takes off, often leaving you breathless. Steig's ability to reach deeply into the reader's pathos is also amazing. I constantly find myself getting angry, frustrated, crying, stunned, sometimes in the matter of just a few minutes. Another amazing dynamic to Stieg's writing is his abilty to create characters that are believable while inserting social messages within these characters and their lives such as the worldview that women are whores who deserve to be raped, tortured and killed. While not my worldview, unfortunately it is a worldview held by those who engaged in the sex traffic trade or who partake in the services they provide. The moral lessons are evident while never interfering with the story. There have been those who have commented on the homosexual and lebsian subject matter, finding it troubleseome. As a Christ follower, this gave me pause, but my gut told me to read the story anyway. I'm glad I did. I felt the homosexual and lesbian relationships were actually pertinent to the story line and were not excessive, distracting or disturbing at all. Actually, I found that Stieg handled these relationships with compassion and care. In addition the vile and evil perversion of the sex traffic was also relayed in a manner that was tactful while brutally honest. I never felt that this subject matter was overly graphic or over the top. He deftly handled ever aspect of it with a tactful tenderness. It was actually really impressive. While there will be some that this subject matter is a boundary they cannot cross, I feel that this is well worth the read for those who are able to read it. This is a huge problem world wide and one that I think we would do well to understand so we can then do our part, whatever that may be. One last thing. I was taught early in College that there is some truth in all writing, even fiction. Because a writer comes to the table with their experiences and worldview, they cannot NOT share that when they write. After doing some quick research on Stieg, it is easy to see his worlview and experiences inter-twined in this story and I think it is those experiences and belief systems that make this story as powerful as it is. I highly recommend.
