In case you are wondering where have I been, I keep Grisham as an author with several unread books because I know if waiting on books from the library, I can quickly find something I haven't read. Anyway, this one started slow for me and I was wondering if I would be willing to finish. However, I was drawn in to this and ending up enjoying quite a bit.

"إدراك الموت يحثنا على عيش الحياة بشدة أكبر".. تلك كانت إحدى جمل ختام الرواية والتي أراها تُلخص كل ما جاء من أحداث بدأت بفيرونيكا التي سأمت حياتها الرتيبة فقررت الانتحار، ودخلت مستشفى فيليت للعلاج، وهناك تقابل ماري وإدوارد وزيديكا.. شخوص تشابكت خيوطهم وحكاياتهم بطريقة رائعة باولو كويليو كاتب يعرف كيف يلعب على وتر قارئه نفسياً بصورة مُحنكة للغاية. حكم عديدة تخرج بها من أعماله، هنا كان الأبرز أننا جميعاً مجنونين بشكل أو بآخر.. وأن بالحياة ما يستحق العيش لكننا نعزف عنه بإرادتنا وبدونها، وأن كلٍ ما يصنع حوله هالة ما تبعده عن العالم الواقعي.. وقد يكون الحب دافعاً للمشكلات، وقد يكون دافعاً للحياة الطب النفسي يستهويني بشدة القراءة عنه، رغم أنه ليس بمجالي.. وقد أعجبتني حالات الاكتئاب والانفصام والذعر التي كانت موجودة عند الأبطال.. ما أثار اشمئزازي بعض الشيء المشهد الجنسي لفيرونيكا.. :S

Very few times do I read a book and think that I'll ever read it again, but reading this book was one of those times. It's an easy read and surprisingly thought provoking. It's less about Lincoln than it is how he's treated in America, and makes you think about how we view our national heroes. It's not a book to read if you want to learn about Lincoln- there are few facts and anecdotes, but still enlightening and enjoyable.

What I loved about this book: girl power, and plenty of glamour! What I hated about this book: smutty romance, completely unrealistic plot, and the ultimate message that you're not successful unless you have a man. I might've rated this one higher if I'd read it on the beach instead of on my lunch breaks. But it was just alright...interesting enough that I finished, but not so interesting I'll remember it six months down the road.
