Night Falls on the Wicked by Sharie Kohler Paranormal Romance- Aug. 30th, 2011 4 stars Sharie Kohler’s latest Moon Chasers werewolf book takes place in the chilly climates of Canada where a demon witch named Darby hides from constant temptation of demons. Darby knows that in the frigid weather Canada, demons are weakened. She has resigned herself to this climate to keep them away from her. As a demon witch, she is a danger to others. So, she is constantly on the run and alone. Her next destination is Alaska. But Darby regrets leaving the latest small town where people are friendly, and she ‘almost’ fits in. Before she can leave, there is a rash of murders in the community. Darby soon realizes that deadly werewolves are killing the population. When she meets a mysterious stranger named Niklas, she is hypnotized by his beauty but also realizes he maybe more than he seems…. Niklas is also a werewolf but unlike other werewolves, he is not ruled by his vicious 'wolf' nature. He is the only one to actually have a soul. His mother sacrificed herself so he could have a life. Now he seeks to kill the werewolf who bit him and get vengeance for the loss of his mother. But he can't help but be distracted by the lovely witch named Darby, even if it may cause his mission to fail. This was a well written paranormal romance. I liked the author’s twist that werewolves are actually evil. The main characters are trying to prevent the werewolves from causing harm. Niklas is incredibly sexy, and I liked that Darby was the first human being besides his mother that he could finally let himself care for. Both characters were so alone and on solitary missions to protect others. I enjoyed reading them finding someone who could love and appreciate each of their admirable qualities. The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was that the author did not have Darby really use her witch powers very much. The plot is driven by the rash of werewolf killings. The hunt is pretty straightforward if dangerous and exciting to read. I liked that the villain was pure evil. However, much of the story focuses the budding and fragile relationship between the two loners, which is very poignant and satisfying. In short, this book is about two supernatural beings that fight to save a town from evil werewolves. I loved their desperate hunt and the blossoming love between the two main characters. The Book Thief is a prime example for why young adult novels are for more than just young adults. I adored this book. I was swept away by the prosy narration, helmed by none other than Death, the immortal entity, struggling with and trying to understand human nature. Leisel (the book thief) is an orphan taken in by a poor foster family in Munich, Germany. The novel takes place between 1939-1943, from when she’s ten until she turns fourteen. The book revolves around her and the people of her life, from her mother and deceased younger brother, her kind, quiet foster father that taught her to read, and her brazen, gruff, and golden-hearted foster mother. It tells the story of Max, the Jewish young man her foster family hides temporarily, and Rudy, the boy-next-door who was Leisel’s best-friend and the boy she loved. It tells the story of the wealthy woman Leisel stole books from and encouraged her to write. And Leisel, the brave, wily girl who harnessed the power of words. The Book Thief is a heart-breaking tale set during one of the most devastating times in recent history. But it will make you laugh, cry, and reflect. Go read it.

Gives a good feel for Tudor times if not entirely historically accurate. I really enjoyed this novel and got a real sense of being there. Very well written in my opinion. Any novel that gets me lost in it as if I was present is a good one.

Great book. I picked it up at the library while I was out of something to read. Easy read, but it's continued, probably a trilogy.

Absolutely my favorite science fiction author of all time. HOWEVER this edition, though it shares a name with the American release that included all of his short stories, is in fact just a limited sample. In turn, a gyp. Couldn't they have named it anything else?

Absolutely fabulous -- a beautiful coming-of-age story. Yes, this is fantasy, complete with magical rules and powers. But the magic only sets off the complex emotions, human interactions, and growth.
