Well this was not what I expected from the reviews. It was very heavy going. In a few places the humor came through, but otherwise it was long and depressing. The same activities were replayed over and over, with slightly different details each time. Flash backs or flash forwards - they made it very confusing. I expected a solid ending, but it just drifted away. One of the entries in the 100 books everyone should read - I had it on my list for a long time. Glad I read it - but it wasn't an enjoyable read.

I found American Gods, by Neil Gaiman, to be a very thrilling and a certainly unique book. The main character is with out doubt a very big man named Shadow whose bad decisions earlier in life earned him a prison sentence. It is in prison where we first meet Shadow and regardless of his past he is actually a caring and somewhat shy individual. The plot of this book was that Wednesday needed Shadow to help him fight against the new gods and to help recruit old gods to also help fight. Along the way we meet many other characters as Shadow’s adventure unfolds. This book could be very creepy at times or suspenseful or even funny. What I liked most was the sense of mystery and fantasy kept through most of the novel. Perhaps the only thing I didn’t like is the image of how they portrayed the gods throughout the book. However, the way the author portrayed the gods set the groundwork for its unique and compelling plot. Overall I would give it a nine or a ten and recommend it to anyone who likes mythology and fantasy, with a little bit of modern day take to it and sexual humor.

Quite a page-turner, but something was just missing. Enough of a good story to keep me hooked for the next installment, though, and a good thing since Thrones is definitely not a stand-alone volume.

As we all are taught in history class that the 1960’s was not a pleasant time for the African American community with Civil Right Movement going on and other movements to gain rights for blacks of America. Many books was written about the mistreatment of blacks. One was “Black Like Me” by Griffin, John. This book is a great book the setting is relatable so it through you into the book. The book is base on a true story so it makes you think like wow could I ever do that. Also the drama of the book keep you turning from page too page. In the book the author John Griffin a white man actually take the idiom Put yourself in somebody else shoes and makes it reality. He disguise himself as a black man and moves into the black community. Trying to experience the pressure of black life. This book settling of the 1950’s is what make you really feed into the book. Being in the 1960’s hitchhiking through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia southern states which was very segregated allows this book to bring excitement in grabbing the dramatic experience of being a black in the 1960’s. If it wasn’t for the settling the book wouldn’t had been deeply drive into the concept that life was hard as blacks in the 1960’s. By choosing primarily the southern state that hated the idea of segregation. John Howard Griffin place his self in a dangerous situation. Where he peer his self as a black man in the 1950’s. He actually takes his self out his non threaten middle class life to relieve the truths of segregation. Making it hard not to love this book. Drama is build from the white man, over night change. Becoming a resident of the black community. Losing all connection with his past companions, and force to make new ones, which is a race consider of the lower then your previous one. The last thing that made me like this book was the non- fiction of the book, the plot. To think of a white man in the 1960’s changing his skin color to display the in different treatment of people of the darker skin. The plot of the book itself grabs your attention. I have day dream of what it would be like to be from a white family. But John Griffin made that day dream a reality when he took this experiment. Making this book a reader! “Black Like Me” by Griffin, John is a great book with a settling that you can relate too and A unusually plot that makes you think and wonder. Also the drama keeps coming page after page. In a world where the whites rain supreme. A white still steps into the shoes of a black man. So if you are looking for something to read that might spike your interest. I suggest you get this book

Not a bad overview of the main pieces of what it takes to run a business. However, this definitely serves more as an introduction than it does of any decent details. The examples were of successful businesswomen/entrepeneurs, which were inspiring and comforting. However, the chapter on "The Scary Stuff" - aka the legal, financial, etc. pieces - simply gave advice to hire someone to do it. Bootstrapping seemed an entirely unfamiliar concept to the authors, especially on the cheap. Also, there are many websites today (e.g. legalzoom.com)that weren't in existence when this book was written. It'll be time for an update soon. Again, though, if you're looking to familiarize yourself with a comfortable intro/overview of what it will take to start your own business, this is a pretty good one. Regardless of gender.

Great collection of stories. King's earliest work are his best, IMHO.
