This is a cute story, a bit like Julie and Julia light. It was a quick read and for the most part the characters were likeable if a bit misundersood at times. This is the first free e-book I've read where I actually cared about the characers and wanted to see where the story went. Some of the plot could have been fleshed out and rethougth a little, but it's still a good story. The inclusion of actual recipies would have been a nice touch.

This is one of my favorite epic poems because of all the magical adventures that Odysseus has along his travels home. Also, my heart really goes out to Odysseus as he longs for home which takes trial upon trial to return to.

Shakespeare wrote tragedies? I think not. This book constantly had me trying to figure out whether I was living my life like Amir or like Hassan. It is a beautiful book and it has the power to break hearts. Amazing. I literally did not put it down until I had finished it. I started past ten and kept at it until a little before sunrise. Yes, it is one of THOSE books.

I must admit I that while I liked it in a general sort of way, overall I was disappointed. What a bummer! Maybe it just reminded me too much of "The Stand" (which I adore and have on my list of desert island books). The first 250 pages or so were completely gripping, but then the rest of the book fell flat for me. And the ending??! ACK!!! So much for all the hype. :(

I loved this book. It's about a girl named Jenna Fox, who we know at the start of the book has been in a coma for about a year and has just come out of it. However, she can remember the most minute historical facts but not what happened before the day she woke up. She can't even feel any love for her mother and her grandmother. She's confined to the house, can't eat anything, and has to take doses of 'nutrients.' Eventually, her memories start coming back, and a horrible bio-medical secret is revealed. Through the course of the book, you realize that you're witnessing a future where the overuse of antibiotics has made us vulnerable to the slightest disease, and an epidemic of a virus has wiped out 1/4 of the planet. The beginning of the book is incredibly slow, but the pace picked up and then I couldn't put it down. Not only are you rooting for Jenna to figure it out, but the discussion of medical ethics and how far someone should go to save someone they love is very thought-provoking. Although the ethics can make some kids and parents squeamish, I would recommend this to any kid who likes to ponder these things from grade 8 up.

I was kind of dissapointed in the ending because he built up the ending through all the books of the series (6) and didn't follow through with some of his foreshadowing. But, it was a fast, fun read and I felt spiritually uplifted...even shedding tears.
