** spoiler alert ** Truthfully, I was rather disappointed with this book. I've read and enjoyed the other books in this series, which, while not the best time travel romances I've ever read, were at least light and fun. Like the others, "Must Love Kilts" had a great premise, but in my opinion it fell flat in its execution. The hero, Magnus, and heroine, Margo, don't even meet for the first time until about halfway through the book, although they do have dreams/fantasies about each other before that. The first half of the book drags in a lot of places, with the author spending too much time on Margo's obsession with all things Scottish, her desperation to win the trip, and her disappointment with the tour's fast-paced itinerary when she arrives. After Magnus and Margo finally meet, they rush into a relationship. Magnus thinks she's a witch for about five seconds after she appears on the beach, but he quickly comes to believe that she is an innocent victim of Donata's curse and can't wait to get her into bed. Margo obviously reciprocates his feelings because she becomes practically incoherent with lust if he so much as stands too close to her. Basically, the only thing she can say is "O-o-oh," which became incredibly annoying as the book progressed. (By the way, is that supposed to be an "oo" as in "moo" or an "oh" as in "Joe"? Either way, if I never see an "o-o-oh" in another book again, it will be too soon.) Their relationship turns steamy very quickly, and Margo falls in love with Magnus and worries about whether or not she'll be able to stay with him in his time. I really had a hard time believing that Margo could fall in love with Magnus so quickly because they barely even talked to each other. How could she possibly know enough about him to be in love? All they seem to think about is getting each other into bed. I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if Magnus and Margo's relationship had been better developed. It would have been nice to see them spend some time together without tearing their clothes off. While I found Margo to be somewhat annoying, I did like Magnus as a hero. His character's history was well developed, and his motivation for turning into the "Viking Slayer" was clear. Some of the secondary characters were entertaining as well, especially Orosius, Ewan, and Margo's group of friends in the present. Overall, I would not recommend reading this book unless you have read the others in the series and really want to find out what happens to Margo. She is the sister of Mindy Menlove, who was the heroine of the fourth book, "Some Like It Kilted." I think Mindy's book was a lot better than Margo's.

This book is worth a read. I'd recommend it for something light for a plane journey or perhaps a boredom-buster on holiday. It has lots of mini-stories and intertwined relationships between the MANY characters who we have narration for. It is, at times, hard to keep up with who's who, but it does get easier and narrowed down as the story progresses (thanks, in the most part, to all the killings!). I don't think the novel is as deep and shocking as I expected it to be and actually guessed pretty early on in the story what the two big 'twists' were (baby and who the killer was). I also don't think it's fair to class it in the same league as the thrill-tastic Karin Slaughter, as per the blurb (haven't read any Tess Gerristen yet, but on my to-do list); it's more hairy house-spider than Black Widow. I also think that the prose was a little sloppy in places, like when the characters had to keep mentioning things in conversation which the other character they were talking to would have known all about but we, the audience, wouldn't, so they would have to give a strange, unrealistic, advertisement-esque description after mentioning it so we were up to speed too, e.g.: "...I'll get the door. It could be FedEx delivering my birthday present." Catherine smiled indulgently. "We just ordered that new set of golf clubs two days ago..." Things like that grate on me. This book is the first I've read of this series or, indeed, from Ms. Barton and I think that the quality is good enough for a series continuation. The side-plot doesn't really develop at all throughout Silent Killer and I'm assuming, as others have, that it makes sense to people who devoutly follow the series. These two things considered prevented me rating it any higher; even though it is a series continuation and the side-plot is probably a 'gift' to the fans I think the quality could have been a great deal higher as a novel in itself, as I have read from authors of other series novels. Worth a read, a page-turner, but more tea and biscuits than chocolate fudge cake.

Kaos: Batı Hakimiyetinin Çöküşü TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

** spoiler alert ** This book consists of three short stories in the romance genre. I hadn’t read any work by these three authors before, and lets just say this book is probably not for anyone under 18. Really racy, and very graphic stories. Web of Desire by Cathryn Fox This story is about two witches Ally and her cousin Selina. They live in a town where everyone knows they are witches, and the town keeps their secret as long as they use their powers for good. Selina starts to use her power to trap the men in the town in a web (literally) and have her way with them. The women of the town obviously don’t appreciate this so they tell Ally she has to get rid of her cousin. Ally banished her to the netherworld, but ten years later she returns and is charged to banish her again. Ally finds her first love tangled in one of Selina’s webs, and he has no memory of her. There’s sex, some some spell casting and revelations of jealousy and envy. Solo Tu by Mandy M. Roth This story’s main female character is also a witch and her name is Francy. After some time away from home she returns to tell her former crush and almost lover Dante, that she is getting married. He does his best to change her mind, and by that I mean have crazy sex with her and get her pregnant. She doesn’t really seem to feel to bad about cheating on her fiance, she even expresses that she doesn’t quite know why she’s marrying him. The fiance (Ivon) eventually shows up and there are revelations made concerning an ex-girlfriends (Ivon’s) spirit, which explains why Francy was even with him to start. Tempted by Two by Anya Bast This is the longest story in the book and definitely the most developed one plot- wise. It’s about a woman named Miranda who finds out she has magic in her blood, when she starts seeing things that shouldn’t exist. She also finds out she is “soul mates” with two men and they want her as a third in there relationship. Needless to say there’s a lot of sex. However the story is actually good, it deals with Miranda’s childhood and how she watched her father abuse her mother growing up. That abuse led to her taking a job as a counsellor at a women’s shelter, and also her hesitancy to make any sort of relationship commitments in adulthood.
