This book has dampened my enthusiasm to have a baby somewhat; I don't really want torpedo boobs or, ahem, an episiotomy. But still a good, entertaining read about how PPD does happen to a lot of people, and better you get some help than drown your child or yourself in the bathtub. Edited to add: I now have it on good authority, by which I mean to say that I did all that myself, that episiotomies and torpedo boobs are not as bad as they sounded.

This is the first book I have read by Elizabeth Noble, and OMG this is a fantastic read! I could not put it down. When I read this book I felt like I was on a emotional RollerCoaster ride, Noble has written this book beautifuly and has you crying and then in stiches the next. I loved the charachters but didn't have a favourite- I have to admit I got a little bit lost on which daughter they were talking about so I had to use sticky notes and stick them on each page to remind me which daughter it was and how old. I loved reading the letters that the mother left for each daughter, and Noble used different type writing style. I cant wait to read her other books! :)

i love all of thomas friedman's other books and 'from beirut to jerusalem' is still one of my all time favorite books, but this is so redundant i'm having troubles even finishing it.

Although less well known than The Call of the Wild, I actually enjoyed the thematic reversal of this Jack London classic more.

A look at the directing career of Steven Spielberg through War of the Worlds (2005). A bit different than I was expecting, this was an academic study of various aspects of Spielberg's films. In some ways, it was a counter-argument to (apparently) many other assessments of Spielberg's career that essentially consider Spielberg, and his friend George Lucas, as the guy that ruined movies. Friedman makes an interesting case for the argument that many of these harsh critics are so harsh because of the incredible commercial success that Spielberg's films enjoy; if someone less well known and successful had made some of these films, Friedman's argument goes, these same critics would not have been so critical. Friedman also takes an interesting approach, grouping the films loosely by genre instead of chronologically. I'm not quite sure I agree with his grouping of films (for instance, 1941 in the "World War II Combat Movie" group seemed to stretch it a bit for me), but this approach gave me a much better appreciation for the changes in Spielberg's films than a simply chronology ever did. Not sure I can really recommend this book, except to someone who is really interested in academic film studies. If you're like me, I recommend just sticking to the movies, and enjoying them for what they are.
I think I cried a lot when I read this. Which usually means that it's good.
Inspiring - definitely going to try the leek soup one weekend! Happy walking!
