The perfect book to read as a nervous pregnant lady.

Dark Needs at Night's Edge is a modern, more intensely paranormal version of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Rex Harrison: making ghosts sexy since 1947. It is, to date, my absolute favourite book in this series. Not that it's really had that much competition. So far it stands against an abductor, rapist, Sebastian/Kaderine who rock, and Bowen/Marie who don't. Conrad, a bloodmad and vicious vampire, is captured by his three brothers and trapped in an old mansion to help recover his sanity. Néomi, a 1920's Prima Ballerina (and former Burlesque dancer) currently haunts said mansion as this was where she was violently murdered. Burlesque, aye? I like her already! Of course, the sexually confidant, lively and brazen ghost is the perfect partner for virginal, uptight and angry Conrad. Their seduction and romance is, for most of this novel, based on their attraction to each other and telling each other every little thing they would do if only they could touch. Néomi absolutely made this novel for me. She was so confidant in her sexuality, so proud of her achievements, so full of life! Conrad's inability to be the typical alpha male with her was also just SO damn refreshing. He couldn't push her around, bully her or trap her. And when it came to wooing her, he couldn't just take her for a walk on the beach or start kissing her. The creepy atmosphere created at the beginning of the novel, as well as the slow burn relationship build between Néomi and Conrad, separates this book from a genre which is all about waiting for the next titty grap or alpha male bullshit that is supposedly romantic. This book would have absolutely gotten four stars from me if the ending weren't a little contrived toward HEA. The first 90% of this book was so well written, so romantic, so lovely that I was absolutely enchanted. Spoiled only in the last 10% by Cole bending over backwards to give us a "perfect" ending. If you never pick up another Cole novel because you are afraid of the romance industry mainstays of the ultra masculine male and the stockholm syndrome suffering female, then at least feel confidant that with Dark Needs at Night's Edge, Cole did something nicely different.

Emily: The lesser Bronte. Strange thing: I love, to death, the last chapter of this book, a love inversely proportional to my feelings for the last chapter of Jane Eyre. I suspect the Sisters switched... Hoax for the ages. If you like tragic female leads and metaphors that go on for days, check out C. "Bring it" Bronte's "Vilette." It's a charmer.

This fascinating biography of a contemporary ninety-two year old is told by following the entries in her teenage diary which was found in an old trunk in a dumpster in a fashionable New York City neighborhood. The talented dumpster-diver and author surprisingly found that the diary's author was still living and full of the spirit and spunk she oozed as a young girl. A maveric in her tastes and talents, her diary takes us through the late high school and college years of a priviledged Manhattenite growing up in exciting early 1930s New York City. Ms Koppel does a good job of making this more than just a wade through a coming-of-age diary. She breathes life into all the diary's characters as she leads us through this tell-all page turner.

It takes a lot for me to give 5 stars to a book but I feel like this book changed my life. What an amazing example Immaculee is of forgiveness, love, faith, and positive thinking. I am so glad that I read this book and hope to return to the lessons I learned from it often!

Men in black rappel from the ceiling while a sinister man reaches through a bookshelf to capture a young man reading a book. That's just the cover! Writer, Mac Barnett, weaves an amazing story about a young man named Steve Brixton who lives and breathes sleuthing. Steve adores the Bailey Brothers Mysteries series and works on becoming a detective just like his literary heroes. As luck would have it, Steve stumbles into a whopper of a mystery by visiting the library to checkout a book for his social studies report that is due bright and early Monday morning. An innocent looking library explodes with action and mayhem for an unforgettable weekend! Reader Arte Johnson gives an outstanding performance. He shares Barnett's use of yesteryear slang with flair. Modern and nostalgic characters combine for a modern Hardy Boys adventure. The whole family will enjoy this hilarious Brixton Brothers story. All in all, this story is ace!

The Good Thief reminded me of the best books of my childhood. The story is full of plot twists, dark characters, suspenseful moments, and strange events. The characters, especially Ren and Dolly, stayed with me for a long time.

This is a pretty decent youth series. I always like the historical factor. This one had information about Henry & John Hudson and their search for the Northwest Passage. Brother/Sister adventure again, but this series is better in my opinion than the Witch & Wizard book I just read. Easy & enjoyable read, not to be analyzed too seriously.
