This book is about a nine year old German girl named Liesel who is given up by her mother to live with a couple in Germany. The book takes place during world war II.Hans helps Liesel learn to read, and during a book buring she is seen taking a book. She goes on to befreiend a Jew named Max, whom Hans has taken in to hide. The two become friends and Max writes stories about Liesel and Max's friendship. Hans gets drafted into the military and Max is seen marching to a concentration camp.Liesel goes on to write stories about her life and survive WWII. This is a great book about life during WWII.It is for older students and would be great to integrate history lessons about the war into it.

This is a fascinating biography about the queen of Edward II. Isabella is usually portrayed as evil in carnate, but it seems a lot of the "facts" that most of us believe/were taught about Edward II's reign and life are fictitious. Weir's biography is well-researched and she sites many historic documents and sources, yet it's not at all dry or boring.

I read this book in 2 days on vacation...but I was not as impressed with this as I have been been with her nonfiction. This felt strangely like an excuse to write in the third person about her life. I adore her honesty and the way she can make me laugh but this was not her best.

A page turner from beginning to end.........it started on a roll and never stopped. I did find some of the scenarios a little far fetched but that's fiction!! I wish that I had known that the characters had been introduced in a couple of her previous books although I don't think it would have really changed anything for me. If you enjoy a fast paced book read it.

A friend of mine who is equally fond of quirkiness and random deep thoughts recommended this book to me, and I'm really glad I finally listened and picked it up. There were a couple parts near the beginning that I had a hard time getting through, but for the most part it was entertaining as well as thought-provoking. There's so much in this book that can be taken apart and examined--modern-day American culture, love, the meaning of symbols... and throughout the book there's the encouragement to live life passionately, to fully enjoy every bit of it--which is my main philosophy on life. Plus, the book is freaking funny.

Another Shakespearian onslaught that tests, terrorizes, and rewards it's readers. It mainly rewards it's dignified and true readers who push through and read it in it's entirety, and terrorizes the ones who are not used to good ol' Bill Shakespeare. With the shit cut, this is a great story with a wide array of themes ripe for ingesting. Feelings of worthlessness and suicide to a last minute appreciation of life, love versus hate ( a common but powerful one ), and revenge boiling over all other emotions until it's too late. There's a lot to read into here, and it's a lot easier if you read this in school because someone can actually explain it to you! Be happy that they do that. It's what makes me appreciate Bill's work until I have the power to do it myself. I'm a fan of atmosphere in books and setting, and the setting in Italy and Greece and Eastern Europe really intrigues me. I love knowing more about those places and their history. So this is a nice way to get a sweet taste of that, or at least to hear some city names dropped to look more into sometime. Give Shakespeare a try regardless. He's a great writer. I think...
