I approached this book with hight expectations, having been addicted to Sookie and her adventures. I couldn't connect with Harper, no matter how hard I tried. Her personality totally escaped me. Sometimes she's needy, others tough as nail. There was no chemistry between us. To be fair, I might have expected too much, after all, Sookie's adventures were full of mazes, betrayals, surprises, and all kinds of mythical and paranormal creatures. Harper had only her power to locate the dead and get a glimpse of how they died. Having said all that, I'm not giving up on the series, yet. I'm planning to read Grave Surprise next. I owe Ms. Harris this much.

My first Steinbeck... now I finally understand why everyone loves him so much. The little pearls of wisdom that float through this book and true gems. I had to force myself to read this book very slowly, in a feeble attempt to absorb some of the depth it has to offer. I wanted to savour every morsel, yet at the same time, its hard to put down a book you're really into and easy to try and rush through it. I can't wait to pick up my next one. Any suggestions?

Oh. My. God. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's like sci-fi for people who don't read sci-fi! Wow. It only really gets interesting 100 pages through the book, though. But when it gets interesting, boy, it gets interesting. I didn't know if I loved Melanie and Wanda sharing the same body at the start but by the end of the book I was like arrrrggggggggggggggg to something that happened that I won't say anything about so that I don't spoil anything. My only real criticism: I don't know if we was meant to or not, but I didn't like Jared very much. Full. Savage. Didn't he have any compassion at all? I know, I know, I am aware that she is an alien in his girlfriends old body, but still! And the ending is a bit too idealistic, but I like it. See I rated it 5 star!

A decent gothic coming of age novel about a girl employed as a companion to a not so usual ward. Probably could have been about 100 pages shorter and packed more of a punch, but overall, it was well written and kept me guessing.

I think that the author was uncharacteristically in a state of despair when she wrote this one. Very uneven book and so hopeless an ending is just not what I've come to expect from a Binchy novel.
