This was the first sandman book that I read. Its lost something for me since the first time I read it. At the time it was a revelation. Rereading it, its fantasy themes cloy at me a bit. But the book is good, and the nostalgia only helps.

OMG. these were the best. ND was all bodacious on the illustrated covers. she looked like a different person on every book, but always had the chubby friend, the obviously gay friend, and the BF, ned. sigh.

Beaumont wrote this classic French fairy-tale. This story was good, but very simple. I think there may be an other, perhaps older version, that has more meat to the story. My version was also for "Juvenile" so I don't know if the translator left things simple or if that is the way it was written. Either way, it was a good book.

I just love the fact that this story ended up in a totally different way then I expected. Great characters, very fun and smart. Thanks

"He never forgets how to describe how things taste." Well done, Nicolas Cage. Well done.
Definitely a good fast read, with more depth and intelligence than I expected. This book is a snapshot of life in the Jim Crow south just as the Civil Rights movement is gaining power but that's not really its strength. The Help gives a good picture of the social constraints of life in a small town and how they can be not just suffocating but also destructive. But most of all it reminded me of the very good (although not as good as The Help) book about nannies in New York City (The Nanny, I think it was called). The abuses of the white women toward their help aren't, honestly, specific to the South. Certainly there are references to the broader abuses of white southerners; but in a way, they're dismissed as, "a white man will beat you or burn your house down but a white woman will slowly and sadistically ruin your life and smile while she does it." The Help refers often to To Kill a Mockingbird and Huck Finn but really, and this isn't a diss, I felt like this book was more on a continuum with The Devil Wears Prada and Macbeth, where you see how badly one woman can abuse enormous power and ruin the lives of others to get what she wants.

Good book that looks into Opus Dei, it's history, theology and philosophy. It becomes apparent that the author, Allen, is writing an apology for Opus Dei and thus, there are a few sections lacking critical critique, such as the section on women. But overall a good book that gives a history of Opus Dei.
Like The Davinci Code meets VC Andrews. I kept waiting for it to be over, but I wanted to know what happened.
