A classic of science fiction, still very relevant.

This may be the definition of a perfect novel.

This is an awesome new comic book mini-series. A criticism of the news media.

Loved it! Probably liked "Prep" more, but once again, she has written a readable, engaging, and insightful book about a young woman. Highly recommended! Mailing it off to Giana asap.

Messud has written a strong novel, full of wonderfully captured social commentary. Her characters were so well drawn that I could picture them and I have to say, I wonder if she has an inside line to Brown students, because she seemed to perfectly render a subsection of them in her writing. I found that very impressive. The book is full, visiting everything from adultery to mental illness, to 9/11. The book looses some of its focus about 2/3rds through, in part I think because the story shifts from micro-observation to macro- narrative. That transition made me miss the previously drawn characters, who seem to fade or loose their way a bit, both within the fictional narrative, and in Messud's writing. But as a reader, I also understood it was time for the characters to transition into action and that meant less description of character. Overall, I'm glad I read the book, I enjoyed it, Nessud is a talent.

So this book is amazing already - I am not even 100 pages in, and already I have had to stop and say DAMN, Big D! He is brilliant and I can't wait to read the rest of this huge book and see what ELSE he is able to do...it's terribly fun reading...his writing makes me rethink every positive review I've given to anything...but then I realize that's silly.

Well written and a good picture of Godel, his work, philosophy and the times he lived in. There would be more starts up there but for 2 reasons: 1 The book goes through thumbnail sketches of Godel's famous proofs and then a more involved version, but even after the more detailed explanation I still felt like I had only scratched the surface of it. Some of the things asserted about the process of Godel numbering seemed almost magical as a result. This is a tough balancing act for any popular take on technical subjects. (See David Foster Wallace's book on Cantor and Infinity for the same "Great Discoveries" Series if you want read more about the difficulties of writing a book like this.) Still, I wanted a little more. Since these proofs are crux of the book, this was disappointing. 2. The book spends surprising amount of time on Wittgenstein but he seems tangential at best to the story. It's interesting to read about him, but it felt tacked on.
