Ah, Fen. I've missed you. Not quite sure why I waited so long to get back to you. If you like your vintage mysteries with a dash of absurdity and humor, Crispin isn't a bad way to go. Swan Song wasn't *quite* as rollicking as a book whose descriptions begins with "Hurrah!" ought to be, but still lots of fun and it goes down quickly. Also, it's very twisty, in a good way. It's not necessary to have read the earlier books to enjoy it, although if you have, some of the bits will be even funnier.

I love this book. Narrative nonfiction about a social circle (network?) in the Bronx. This book taught me the term "dead hair" to describe straight (white people) hair. I also often think of the drug dealer, Boy George, who was awesomely neurotic and very poignantly of Coco struggling to make ends meet and moving to Buffalo and the Dad who seems to progress so much further in prison than he would have on the outside. There are also some horrifying scenes about roaches. I also think this book does a good job of showing how fucked up families can get and how abused people become abusers.
