I wouldn't call this a love story for I haven't ever read about a love so dark and destructive before. Interesting and at least it leaves the reader on a somewhat possitive note.

First thing: everything my Dad always said about the tax system is 100% true. Two: this book is beautifully written. Something about DFW's way of describing other humans is so bright and clear and on point that you smile every time because it's hard to write in a way that most people understand you. Three: it takes a special type of artist to write about a topic so uniquely dull and manage to spin it into some sort of fantastic story that you can't help but to kind of love. Everything everyone said about David Foster Wallace is true. He was one of our greats.

My knowledge of twentieth century logic and metaphysics is not sufficient to give a proper review for this book, but I will say that the style is excellent. I will certainly have to return to it once I have learned more about the pertinent philosophies.

I don't know what to make of this book. Sometimes I liked it and sometimes I didn't. The story was good, predictable but I didn't really mind that so much. I think it has to do somewhat with one of the hero's he is this immortal that's not all gorgeous. I know pathetic but I wanted him to be you know amazing like all the other heroes are in my book and mind. As the book evolves so does he change physically not sure how I guess its all in the eyes of the beholder. In the relationships,one specific Jane makes decisions that don't necessarily match her personality! The ending was good though and leaves room for the sequel. some mild language couple of situations nothing happens but not so clean a romance

This was a good fast read. Pretty short. A little contrived at times, and somewhat overt in its lifting from the Judeo-Christian theology. But overall well written. I liked the main characters, enough that sometimes I felt like throttling them for their actions. There's magic aplenty, if not quite explained. The concept of using glass to store magic is interesting. There is contact with gods, almost-understandable evil, suitable creepiness, and unrequited love. Something will happen to these characters to completely wrench them apart or draw them so close that none can sunder it.[return][return]I'd recommend this. I was a little put out to see it's actually copyrighted to Judith Tarr...who is not a bad author by any stretch, I like her quite a bit, really...but I thought it might be a new author. Eh. It's very obviously the first in a series.
