Would love to give this 4.5 stars I got goosebumps when I read this quote "Angel", he mumured, clasping my face between his hands. "I don't think you understand the lengths I would go to if it means keeping you here with me". I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Also looking forward to meeting Becca Fitzpatrick at "The Black Hand Ball" in Sydney next month. Book signing and goodies for her fans :)

Beautiful, beautiful book. Wurlitzer and his wife end up in southeast Asia, almost immediately after the death of their 21-year-old son. On the trip, Wurlitzer comes to understand Dharma concepts at an emotional and spiritual level, rather than purely intellectually. He uses lots of quotes to support his transformation, but nothing is used in a self-consciously academic way. He's not trying to prove anything to anyone -- instead he seems to finally understand what it all means.

I am going to start actively stealing lines from this book to use in every day life. Her second book was funny, but not nearly as good as this one. I guess I like dating stories better than drinking stories, who knew? I was laughing so hard people were staring at me on the subway.

I picked up this book hoping to learn about the history of the kamikaze program. However, it seems Sheftall's goal was to examine the mind of the young kamikazes and the culture that created the phenomenon. The end result was something between an historical account and a book on mid-twentieth century Japanese society. Sheftall told the story of the kamikazes through ten or so men and a group of women who lived through the kamikaze program. Although I found the historical information- such as the wide variety of kamikaze-specific vehicles including planes, gliders, speed boats, and torpedos- interesting, I now realize that the "why" behind the story was probably more interesting. In hindsight, I wish Sheftall had spend more time addressing the psychological propaganda put forth by the Japanese government and less time on the religious beliefs of the Japanese people. Though by no means an action-packed story, this book was an engaging read based almost entirely on firsthand accounts from men who expected to die more than 50 years before this book was published.

this book was a bit of a cross between "these is my words" and the "little house" books in that it covered a long period of time, but it was also a personal account of the character's, abbie deal,life. not as good as "these is my words," but still fun to read about this woman's life in the nebraska setting. seeing as though many of the stories w/in this book come from real events, i'm continually amazed at what the pioneers went through! yikes. i did enjoy the way she treasured motherhood and through so many disappointments when her own dreams didn't come to pass, she was able to be happy through her children and their accomplishments.

I actually 'read' this book as an audiobook during a series of weekend trips. I don't usually go in for the murder mystery genre, but this book was so good that I found myself looking for excuses to get in my car and drive around town, allowing the radio to keep playing even after I reached the grocery store. There are a number of really great characters and the plot has so many twists and turns, mysteries piled on mysteries. I definately recommend as a fun, get lost in another world book.

I'm not the biggest fan of Science Fiction books, but I really enjoyed First Stike. It had an excellent stroy following the events of the first Halo. Eric Nylund portays the action, emotions and characters greatly in this novel. If you are in to Halo, Science Fiction or even just a good story I would recommend reading Fisrt Strike. I will ashure you that you won't be dissapointed.
