As a finished novel - very disappointing. The best I can say is that this could represent a good first draft. There were some good ideas, but ultimately it was flat. None of the characters are particularly compelling. Many excellent books of this genre have been made into movies - I believe that is what Baldacci is shooting for with this venture, and it would likely play better as a movie. A talented group of actors could pull out more subltey than currently exists in the text. Ultimately, I'm going to give Baldacci another try with "Collectors" - 3 very smart people whom I respect have read it and loved it - although they are fans of the series generally, and my hopes aren't too high that the next novel will be much of an improvement on the first.

Horrible characters with very little moral & self respect. I was absolutely disgusted at the poor decisions each character made on shallow, emotional levels most jr. highers could see folly in. Just not a good read with perversity displayed on each and every page.
