Simply I hate it! In this foolish book, everything is fake: love, passion, faith and fame. After watching the TV adaptaion, you may ask yourself how can he leave Rachel Ward behind, but reading the book, you may exclaim how one can believe two stupid puppets fall for each other, when there is no touch of magic and fascination!

Let me begin by saying that it took me almost 2 months to finish this book. I tore through the first 200 or so pages, but then I just couldn't seem to pick it up and read the rest. It started off being really a engaging and funny memoir about all of the bizarre and sad stuff that's happened in the author's life, but I think it really deteriorated along the way -- or maybe I just got bored of the fact that the author is overly self-aware and makes a point of acknowledging his own self-involvement in pretty much every sentence. In any event, the book was pretty good, but I'd have been happier if he would have stopped around 200 pages.

Reading Water for Elephants is a good, fast read. I hadn't heard a lot of hype but what I heard was good and it lived up to what I had heard. Reading a story about a circus is not my idea of fun or a decent way to pass the time. I was surprised. Often times, a sport, while often a centerpiece to a story, can be substituted for almost any other sport and the primary message(s) stay intact. Not here. You lose the circus, you lose the story. Despite thinking that circus' are kind of creepy, I loved the story and the writing. It didn't change my opinion about circus' though!

I was reccomended this book, a little over a year ago, and almost didn't read it because of the name of the author, Stephen King. I'd always associated him (although I'd never watched or read anything by him before) with blood, guts, and cheap horror, which were things I hated. I loved the classic horror. The Twighlight Zone days, the Hitchcock days. Even though I had never lived during that time, they felt like home. I was totally wrong. King, especially with this book, and the ones that came later, proved his genius to me, and how good a writer he is. It's so weird, has so many great points to it, that all I can do is reccomend it to you.

I found this book interesting because I'm from the area where the writer lives and where the story is set. I left immediately after I graduated from college because of the conservatism of the area and I felt that I could never have a happy life there. It's interesting to see another point of view.

I hated this book! *Spoiler* The premise is that there is an invasive race taking over bodies on Earth, and the one called Wanderer ends up with a group of humans that have not been converted. She connects with them and to save them, offers to sacrifice herself because she is one of the few that can asexually reproduce (and in doing so, ends her life). But in the end, she ends up being transplanted in another body! The story was sluggish, and the ending unsatisfying. I would've much rather she sacrificed herself than continue on parasitically in another body, creating a delusion of everything's okay around her. Ugh. Typical Stephanie Meyer. I'm done with reading her books.

Despite the cover art, this book was not the light fantasy I was expecting. Our heroine is captured, threatened with rape and murder repeatedly, loses control of her abilities and then finally is betrayed by her love interest who turns out to be quite the psychopath (this plot twist has makes the heroine look like a particularly bad judge of character on top of everything). In the last few pages, she has another potential love interest on the horizon but the happy ending felt tacked on after all the calamities. Frankly, I don't think I'll be reading further in this series which is too bad - the initial book was very promising.
