I adore Isabel Allende and this is the first book she wrote for young people. I believe this would qualify as Magical Realism. Alexander Cold travels to the Amazon with his amazing grandmother. He encounters the People of the Mist and the beasts. I enjoyed reading this.

When I think that I almost took this book back to the library without reading it, I have to take a deep breath. This is the story of a young teenager who is still trying to deal with the sudden death of her dad a year & a half later. Her whole world has changed & she doesn't know how she's supposed to change with it. Then, her mom hires a caterer one night & her whole world changes. Delia is an amazing character that approaches life with a bravery I only hope I one day have. The teenagers that work for her have had their share of tough love, but have all emerged better people. I LOVED the path that led Macy to find herself & live the life of her dreams. It wasn't sudden & it wasn't due to anyone else, it was real. I loved the love story within it & I loved the mother-daughter relationship. This story was just so real that it kind of changed me. Here's to my forever.
