Much better than the movie. The book really isn't about spelling bees-- it's about families and faith and dysfunction and trying to find oneself. The movie sort of misses that at times, I think. Plus, Goldberg's an Oberlin alum.

This is a beautiful photo-biography, a great-value album for all the Vidal fans. Covering much of his life, the pictures are accompanied by captions and commentary by the man himself, with his usual mixture of sarcasm, wit and even some candor. I particulary liked all the La Rondinaia pictures and all the pictures with the Newman-Woodward couple. But what I found most delicious about this book is that the photographs, or at least the majority of them, are just private snapshots (hence the title) intended not as a pose, an exercise of vanity, but real intimate pictures, of something to be remembered later.

While the American government talks of "fighting terrorism" by seeking out the enemy and claiming to rebuild the countries we've destroyed, Greg actually builds bridges of peace between America and these Muslim countries through his perseverance to give the children of these countries a balanced education - allowing these children the opportunity to understand and seek hope of life over death, and a choice of schools other than the madrassas that produce the extremist fighters. It's a story for EVERYONE and hopefully, like me, you'll be inspired, in whatever way is feasible for you, to help his cause.

Bound by Guilt is the perfect title for this book. It's hard to post a review without giving away spoilers, but I'll try. There were some things at the end of the first book in this series that had me wanting more. Well, in this story I got to see what I wanted, then wham! My heart ached and the tension just kept building from there. I could picture the traumatic event because it was so well done. Every time the situation was remembered I had a flashback myself. The description of the horrible event was superb. The author did a great job showing a variety of situations that tugged on this reader's heart strings. I love how the author showed rifts in families and relationships in both books and showed how important it is to always keep a clean slate. What a great lesson. The thing that intrigued me about this book the most was the foster care situation. I've worked with foster children for years as a child protective services worker and this author did a great job showing the inner turmoil that foster children go through. I loved how the author paired Roxi with a dog who needed someone and who had no one just like she did. Wonderful analogy and critical to her healing. The rest of the book continued in a similar manner until God hooked Roxi up with someone who truly cared. I was inspired by the themes in this book and loved the ending. I also love how the author isn't afraid to hurt her characters--a lot-- but that always makes for a better story. Great sequel!

A unique point-of-view (a deceased victim watching over the members of her former life) lets the story unfold carefully and beautifully. To those that claim it’s "predictable", I have to point out it is hardly a detective story—the identity of the murder/rapist is revealed in the first chapter. It is more a story about coping with a sudden, tragic death. An easy, but enjoyable, read.

WAR IS PEACE. This very haunting and powerful book seemed to be brimming with fantastic quotes. I actually enjoyed this page turner, spine tingling phrases and all. Moments from this book would make me stop my place and sit and think. A very engaging book 1984 is a thought provoking book filled with terrifying ideas. Although it ended in quite a shocking and depressing manor overall I thought fondly of this book.
