Nania Leal _ania77 — The 1987 Newbery Medal winner Kind of an interesting tale for younger readers in which all the characters (even the king, I think) learn a lesson. Loved the illustrations by Peter Sis. Liked the use of few "made-up" words by the author.

Oscar Cañizares montondeideas — Yossel, April 19, 1943 is a companion of sorts to Kubert's earlier Fax From Sarajevo. This story is presented like a sketchbook "diary" and feels immediate and alive. It's a personal tale of a young artist's hellish existence in the Warsaw ghetto in 1941, and how events conspired for the Jewish prisoners to rebel against their captors. Not quite as good or original as Sarajevo, but still a worthy read. Kubert's art continues to amaze me.

Zhang Jerry info0b01 — I loved reading about Amy pushing herself to try something that she would never do, and succeeding. Again, I wasn't the greatest fan of the love triangle addition but this one was a lot more complicated than it was in the last book with Nathan and Amy. I wished there had just been a book that focused on Avi and Amy working through their problems together and no one else getting in the way.

Jahaziel Serrano _ahazi_errano — ** spoiler alert ** This book really seemed to run the gauntlet of feelings. I really thought I knew where it was going to go when it started. Emma was mourning Ben's death, and 2 years later she seems ready to move on with her life and is eying Carter, Ben's BFF, who was always there for her in the aftermath of Ben's death. I expected the book to deal with her conflicted feelings of moving on. That was not the case. Unknown to Emma, Ben's spirit/ghost was hanging around her watching her and getting upset to see that she was moving on with Carter. He managed to find a witch that gives him back his body and life and he comes back. But things aren't the same, the old adage of you can't go home again comes into play. Ben is different now, he is slightly mean and more than a little scary. Emma is reserved, but so glad to have him back. However as time goes on she can't let go of the one night she spent with Carter. And Ben knows what happened between them as he was watching. The mean streak in Ben pulls Carter into a game with Emma, the 3 of them spend one hot night together. Ben hopes to learn what Emma wants from Carter in hopes that he can give it to her and to let Carter know that Emma is really his. Things start to escalate and soon all of them are unhappy, they know something is off with Ben, but not sure how to fix it. Turns out the fix is one of fairy tales and becomes really easy once known. With the sacrifice made I ended up liking Ben at the end, which surprised me as for most of the story I didn't like him. I do think the ending was one that was the best for all of them.
