Well, won't that be egg on my face... Also: You know how when you read any given fiction, no matter the quality, you manage to find one character who you like/can emphasize with/who you're sort of rooting for to not get totally screwed over by whatever's happening. Man, not the Dune books. I came to realize in reading this one that if I turned a page and it said "And then a giant Sandworm ate everyone, everywhere, everywhen because time is a singular point that human perception must move beyond in order to assume the greater nonassumption of perpetual Bene Gesserit Golden Path fear is the mindkiller blah blah blah the end" I really wouldn't have cared at all and instead felt minor relief, if also some disappointment that the f'd up events of the fourth book no longer existed and I'd wasted my time.

Francesco Ferraro ferrarofrancesco2920 — I love all the "My First Little House Books". I love the illustrations and the wordings come right out of the Little House books. All children should read about Laura's family's life and understand the way things used to be. My kids were amazed when I told them Laura's house was probably as big as our living room.

Dan Johnson dannyjohnson — It's always interesting reading a book that takes place in the 90's before the Internet was booming. Just to see what a mere 20 years has meant technology-wise! This was a good mystery and it contained a truly scarring plot - brutal murders, serial killer - that's some frightening stuff. I might even give this a 3.5. I liked the characters, but would have liked to see more development of some of the others. I found the protagonist, Dr. Brennan, to be borderline shrill as the book wore on. The endless questions lumped together.. did he do this? Why did he say that? Where was he going? What sweater was he wearing? There were sections with about 10 questions crammed together like that, and while I think the author was trying to create a sense of Brennan's actual thought process, it made me feel like I had developed serious anxiety and basically wanted to smack Brennan and tell her to calm down! It also reminded me of Lassie. Where's Timmy Girl? Is Timmy in the well? Did he fall in? Is he close by? The setting of Montreal was splendid as I admittedly am not Canadian-wise except for knowing about the French/English split, so it was nice to have a little literary romp around the city. I also wasn't a big fan of Gabby and thought the development of that story was a little awkward. What kind of a friend acts the way she does? So it was tough to attach myself on the "like-ability" scale to many of the characters, but I thought the story itself was great and kept me adequately freaked out and intrigued.
