Ionahan Sanchez ionathan — What is is about New Orleans that every author seems to think supernaturals love to live there? This book is no different. Jane Yellowrock is hired by the Vampire Council to kill a rogue vampire who is drawing unwanted attention in New Orleans. He is killing indiscriminately, both humans and other vampires. Jane is a skinwalker, a supernatural that exists in much of Native American lore. She is able to adapt her form to any animal she has sufficient contact with to know its DNA. She is most comfortable as a mountain lion, but can absorb mass from the earth and become something larger, or send mass into the earth and become something smaller. This is an interesting take on the physics principle of conservation of mass, a conflict that has always bothered me about other skinwalker stories. As Jane investigates, in both her guises, she learns much more about her own past, something that has been hidden from her previously; her memories were not intact. She meets a Cherokee shaman, who is able to help her uncover her past life as both a human and an animal. If you love kick-ass heroines, Jane will make you happy. She doesn't need a man around and even has to rescue several during her adventures in New Orleans. A very promising debut.

Betsy Koscher dragonflyrider2 — What a little gem of a find. I love this book with all my heart. This is what teenagers should be reading, not superficial, meaningless trash, but a proper book with likeable, real characters; an inspirational narrator 'Larry', who is extremely wise for his years; situations we can all relate to and at the same time are new to us. I don't understand why everyone loves 'Twilight' so much, but nobody has heard of this book. There is no way you will ever love Edward Cullen as much as I love Larry. I do. I love him. He is AMAZING. I wish he were real.

Hend Alamri hend009ab8 — Midnight Marriage by Lucinda Brant is a Georgian romance inspired by true historical events. In Midnight Marriage, a young girl of only twelve and a rebellious youth are wed in a ceremony conducted in the dark of night. Then the youth is whisked away by his father, and the young girl returned to her bed. She does not clearly remember the incident as she was drugged. Years later, as an adult, she meets him again but does not realize she is wed to him. He wishes to win her heart without her knowing of his noble title, and on his own merits. They wed again as adults. The rub comes when she learns his real identity and realizes that she has been deceived. There is plenty of subterfuge in this tale, with several subplots skillfully woven throughout. This well-written historical romance clearly illustrates the author’s talent for story-telling. It is engaging, authentic, and comfortably paced. The dialogue is believable and stays true to its period. The settings, outfits, and behavior of the characters are portrayed in delicious detail. This is a book I would highly recommend to any readers who like a sweet historical romance rife with intrigue and complicated by societal expectations of the time.
