Cristina Belsole cbelsole — I did love this book. I must say that I agree with many of my friends and wish this book was not marketed to young adults due to the attitude about anti-marriage and no-committment lovers (although the sexual content was brief and vague). I loved the concept of Gracelings, although not original, Cashore put a nice twist on it with the eyes and belonging to the king only. I liked the love story between Po and Katsa. I love that Po's grace so perfectly fit Katsa's, allowing him to understand her despite her inablility to communicate and allowing him to keep up with and challenge such a strong woman, yet be gentle and kind. I also felt the villian Lek was great. I was intrigued by someone whose grace could sway minds even when his words were passed as rumors. I still don't understand how Bitterblue finally broke his spell on her. I did not want the book to end and wanted more adventures with Katsa and Po. I hope the author writes more about these two and and world of the seven kingdoms.

Romel Señar romel02 — I finally finished this book after reading it in fits and starts over the last month. I'd even made it to the last 15 pages - the final section - before leaving it home while I went to CA for two weeks. The book wasn't bad, but I'm not in love, either. There are four sections, each narrated by a different character, years apart... a dead teenager, her boyfriend (now an adult), his new girlfriend, and his father. The book tackles a lot of good topics (religion, human nature, school violence) but the writing style came off as somewhat forced, which each character's personality seeming to come more from the blatant narration style rather than the content. That said, after the first few pages of each section, it's easy to ignore and get down to the story. I felt the best portion was the last, so if you're having trouble staying committed to this book, push through it. It's worth small amount of time it takes to read. The first Coupland I've read, and while I'm not rushing out to read more, I haven't written him off... yet. Feel free to offer suggestions on his other books.
