Pedro Mattiazzo pedromat — I have read reviews from book critics who talk about the humorous irreverence in Bill Bryson's writing. Well, there's irreverent, and then there's just plain mean. Too often, I got the impression of 'I'm so much better than these rubes/morons/farmers' (he used 'farmers' as an epithet, and as the daughter of a farmer, I took great exception to this). There were just enough truly funny - and sometimes just heartrendingly sad - moments in this book to keep me reading, but I truly got angry on behalf of the many groups of people he mocked in this book.

Illustrates well the romance between Sarah and Abraham and how it grew from when they were Sarai and Abram into their old age and the miracle birth of their first child. Books of this sort make Biblical stories more personal and relatable.
