Carol Bastos carolbastos — I forget where I got this but I'm glad I found it. This is great for people like me who love to learn about personal experiences during the Holocaust. It's different in that unique way each person experiences something and that affects me. I absolutely adored the photos and I loved how they were included as well. Instead of having the usual photo insert Kimmelman put them in sporadically and that really gave a lot to the book IMO. I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking for personal accounts - you can find many, some more well written than others and this isn't one of the best written and it's certainly not one of the worst. The fact that Kimmelman is obviously very intelligent makes the writing that much better. What she had to endure to survive is horrendous. All of it is horrendous but reading a book like this - and being brought into the story, into the persons life - brings it so much closer to home.

Jeanne Johnson _b11d — Lucy and Oliver Crown's marriage goes on the rocks when their thirteen-year-old son, Tony, catches mama in bed with another man. Somehow they all manage to be so hurt that no clear communication or reconciliation is possible for the next thirty years. A bit melodramatic, but well written, so almost believable even though I failed to understand Lucy's motivation at some deep level. Why was she so weak willed? It seemed like she was hysterical and I don't think that was what Shaw intended me to think. Ultimately I wonder if he really understood his character at all. Trashy and riveting at the same time.

Nichole Yeow maikokawas6652 — This book is so overrated. Read something better.

Nelson Dein _elsondein — Awesome book, especially for train rides! Can't wait to read more of the series.

Serena Rinaldi _erena_inaldi — It's a good book to start the habit of reading.

Adam Kahn adamkahn — Fyodor obviously had a LOT of time on his hands. I doubt this book could be written in an age of TV, computers, radio and Starcraft 2. The book is brilliant to the point of being humbling and polished beyond anything I have ever read. As I listened on double speed I was challenged by the many unfamiliar Russian names and the various nicknames assigned to each character. If I read this again, I will go to Wikipedia and familiarize myself with the various characters and their names beforehand.

Sameen Fatima sameenfatima — This is my favorite King book so far besides The Green MIle. There are a few parts that really drag for me but all in all I think it is a wonderful adventure novel!
