Karl Oversteyns _56 — Reading this novel was a different experience for me. At times I absolutely loved it and other times I thought it was a waste of time and couldn't wait to finish it. Reading it was like climbing up a huge never-ending mountain and getting to the top and saying, 'Eh, ok'. It also had many of the same themes from some of his past novels (I've read The World According to Garp, A Widow for One Year, and The Cider House Rules)-- prostitues, wrestlers, older women, ect. At this point in reading Irving, I know some people love it, but to me it's gotten a little old.

Kanokwan Kaewwanich _anokwan_aewwanich — This is a great book. Apparently it was a movie with Patty Duke! It was pretty cool. The premise is there's this ugly Jewish girl who needs a nose job. She can't get a date and her parents are trying to set her up with guys, so she leaves home in Brooklyn and gets a room in the Village. Here she finds acceptance among all the kooky queers and artists. It is a true timepiece. 1969, the year of the Stonewall riots. And her acceptance of gays is unquestioning. And drugs and stripping and birth control and gangs are just a part of life too. My kinda book. Unfortunately she turns out to be straight and sleeps with an artist, when it's obvious the real story should be she goes to the Village to discover herself as a lesbian. But it was a movie with Patty Duke, so they couldn't do that. It has to be squeaky clean in its warped, 1969 kinda way.

Cs Zhao _ — That the ending of the book didn't make any more sense than the ending of the movies.

Sam Cividanis hausofdoom — i had not read the previous books in the series as i had chose this book not knowing that is is the third book in the trilogy but saying that i did like the book and soon got to know what was going on good read thanks

Lindsey Bledsoe elusivephoto — I have not read enough to form an opinion I would like to make public yet! I have finished the book and I was disappointed. All of DBF's books have been well written and I have enjoyed them tremendously. This one did not fit her usual standards in my opinion.I felt that the story was much more contrived than her previous novels and I did not identify with Beth at all. Perhaps the age difference;} I will look forward to and read her next book. One book does not spoil my opinion.
