Lia Maya _lter_edia — Synge excels at showcasing and exploiting Irish stereotypes in this play. However, Synge does this in a way that is both comedic and enlightening. Christy, the main character, tells a story about killing his own father. The townspeople become intrigued and fascinated by this story and come to regard him as a local hero and playboy. However, things turn darker as the truth is revealed about Christy's story and the townspeople learn that there is difference between the story of something and the actual deed. As a writer, I would like to incorporate this same sense of realization in my stories.

Judith Locklear littleturtd774 — ** spoiler alert ** Overall I thought the book was good, however the reason I gave it three stars is because there wasn't enough about Callie turning to Cal. The Author spent a great deal of time explaining the lives of Callie/Cal's grandparents and parents, but I feel skipped out on Callie/Cal. I wanted to know more about how Callie/Cal came to know what happened with her grandparents and parents. How he was feeling as he transitioned into his new role. The process of changing just seemed to be skipped over. I may have come into this book thinking it was going to give readers more information about Callie/Cal and less about the minute details of her grandmother's work for the "enemy", and her grandfather's businesses, etc. I wish Mr. Eugenides would have spent more time on the main character. What ever happened to Cal and Julie? What happened after the funeral? How did Cal end up working for the government?.... etc, etc.

Saso Dzuljo dzuljo — The story and prose in the book leave a lot to be desired,I finished my little Tao Lin exploration at page 40. Emo prattle become decidedly uninteresting around the 40 page mark.
