Manvendra Singh om1102om0ff2 — In David Levithan’s first book for the older than young-adult crowd, we follow the ups and downs of a relationship as told through short dictionary entries. The nitty-gritty of coupledom is explored from first meeting to moving in. This is a short and sweet chronicle of a relationship, and falling in love. I have enjoyed David Levithan’s writing in the books he has co-authored with Rachel Cohn and John Green. This is the first I have read that he has authored alone. His familiar writing style shines through in this book, and solidifies my admiration of his work. I also think the cover art suits this book perfectly with the words contained in a heart shape. The narrator is an unnamed male and the story is told in dictionary style from A-Z. One word per page is chosen and includes the parts of speech as in a dictionary. This becomes the starting off point to describe an event in the relationship. It is fun to read the creative words he chooses for each letter and see how the story relates. I even learned some new vocabulary words in this book. Starting out, I was not sure that it was going to be easy to follow the story in this format of short entries. However, the emotions and feelings of the characters come through well and the story works in this format. It is interesting that sometimes a new word entry will revisit or continue a scene discussed within a previous entry. At first I thought I was re-reading a page before I realized that the scene was expanded. The good, the bad and the ugly moments are included in this intimate look at relationships. The writing is observant and sharp in documenting the day-to-day life of adjusting to being a couple. I enjoyed this insightful, quick read and recommend it for fans of David Levithan’s books and fans of contemporary fiction. Although this book is written for adults, I found it shelved in the Young Adult section at the library. I urge you to seek out this moving and honest portrayal of love and relationships.

Ale Horn alehorn — This book was definately an awesome read it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Loreli was raised at Siren Song along with all of her illegitimate sisters,by her Aunt Catherine and her floozy quack of a mother Mary who later vanished thought to be dead. As a child Loreli remembers a strange and frightening little boy named Justice Turnbull who would come visit with his mother Mad Maddie Turnbull. All of the women of the family was rumored to have a psychic gift and Maddie used hers to tell fortunes. Justice grew up with such hatred for his mother and all of the sisters that he turned into a psychotic serial killer and wanted to kill them all. After LOreli's divorce from her Pompous ass husband Byron Loreli finds herself pregnant with his child and with these malicious thoughts from none other than Justice himself. He has escaped the mental hospital were he has been held for the criminally insane since his previous murder spree a few years back. He's out to kill the sisters of siren song especially Loreli because for some strange reason he can smell and track her because she is pregnant. Harrison is a newspaper reporter looking for the big story to get his career back on track since a fallout with his previous employer. He meets Loreli and offers to protect her and track down Justice before he kills everyone she has ever cared about. In the process he falls head over heels in love with her and feels that he has to protect her at all costs. The suspence in this book was amazing, I actually could feel the fear myself when Justice appears the first time to try to kill Loreli. It had an awesome ending and left off to where more can be written on the story. Can't wait to find out what is next. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to be scared!!!

Ann Ozol ozolann — I thought I hated Koontz' writing with a passion. Having never read anything by him ever, I was taken aback by the (pseudo) literariness of the prose and thought, "how dare he?" after all, isn't he one of those pop-fiction, wanna-be thriller writers? You know, those books with far-fetched plots yet predictable storylines. Anywho, I thought Koontz doesn't know what he wants: he wanted to be this poetic wordsmith and then at times masterful thriller writer - aside from his pretentious writing style pissing me off, I think the book was all over the place. However, once the book got going I found myself wanting to know how it was going to end, so I relented. I don't hate his writing with a passion. The story line did keep me on the edge of my seat but after I yanked myself from the throes of the story I realized that it wasn't very good. I see why his books sell so much, but I'll keep my snobby judgements of his fans to myself.

Tania Mendoza taniamendoza — These are characters you can love to hate, and feel good about it. They embody my personal belief that there is redeeming good in every person, even those who treat their loved ones as horribly as these characters do.
