Victor Guevara vicgmtz1756d4 — I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, as I wasn't that wild about Scott Pilgrim (loved the movie, though) and was basically only checking this out because of the two page spread in it that references my favorite band, Sloan. ("My first name is Amal and I'm a girl!") Anyway, I read it late at night in a quiet house, and thought O'Malley did a fantastic job of teleporting me into that car, into an era of life that's way behind me now. At times I thought the script was a little too wordy, but it got me inside of Raleigh's head in such a way that it made the payoff of the last quarter or so of the book more than worth it. Not flawless by any stretch, but an evocative piece of work and I'm glad I read it.

Jes Helton jeshelton — Ana is the first to be born with a new soul, or, as so many say, with no soul. Everyone else has been reincarnated, the same souls populating Range consistently. But when Ana comes back, and the soul that was supposed to reincarnate disappears, people start to panic about what her presence means. Ana escapes her mother who hates her in an effort to learn why she is so different from everyone else, and escape the seclusion that she has been kept in. After being kept away for so long, however, she finds herself in far over her head and is helped by Sam. In the city of Heart, some welcome her, and others see her as a direct threat to her existence, but Sam tries to keep her safe throughout. But Ana finds that the fact she took someone else's existence, and what the means, might be a little more frightening than she wanted to know. I absolutely loved this book. I loved Sam's character, and the whole concept of having people reincarnate for hundreds of years until Ana - the first new soul. I enjoyed the action component of this book (dragons and sylphs!) as well as the mystery and romance. There were some really great scenes and overall, I thought it was a good dystopian read. Jodi Meadows definitely has a gift for writing.

Federica Adamoli federicaadamoli — If you liked the movie "Beaches" you'll love this book. The plot is almost identical. I liked it, though, because it kept me turning the pages. I could not put it down. Although, the story is totally predictable it still gives you that, "I have to see how it ends." feeling.
