Apphd Agency apphd — I have been listening to this book on CD and it has some good stories of the early women who founded the country. The catchy, but all the women in the book weren't necessarily mothers of patriots - many were wives. Good stories of how the women ran the farm, gave birth to children, and fended off the enemy at home while the men were of talking in Philadelphia. A good quote from the book that said that if the British beat the army, they would still have the women to tangle with! Good stories of courage and independent, strong women who fought for the freedom of the country.

Natasa Sersen demenca — this book, to me, feels like playing pretend on a huge wonderful scale. it exists in the most real way in the world of imagination. and it is so blissfully long! i don't really want to finish. update: okay but now i did finish, and i was not disappointed. In a lot of ways, I was reminded of Harry Potter in the scope and magnitude and level of imagination and complete definition of an unfamiliar world, except The Children's Hospital soared over all of Harry Potter's weaknesses, and doesn't give you a slightly dirty feeling that you're enjoying it a bit too much. What I found most compelling about the book was the power and beauty of the smallest moments. Things that I had never even articulated feeling are described in such a way that I was sure that the human experience and my own childhood experience is in so many ways universal. These moments were beautiful and tragic and wonderful, making the characters so intimate and real. My only complaint is that the ending was awfully clean and turned the whole journey of the book into something extremely logical and linear. It fit, it definitely fit, but it was almost too tidy. When I finished this book, I opened back up to the first page and started right over again. It was that good.

Laura Gilardenghi _aura_ilardenghi — I almost gave up on this book. The first half was incredibly long and a bit dull. The foundation for the story was laid but I think it was a little too long. I almost stopped listening to this book and I would have had it not been that I love Kingsolver's writing style. All in all this is a great story a good amount of history and fiction. Harrison Sheppard is a unique character and I love that he loves everything there is about life. Having been raised by an extremely shallow Mexican mother whose main worry in life is wearing the latest fashions and finding a man to take care of her. He spends a few years with his father or should I say in the same state as his father, Virginia, at a boarding school. Later in life Harrison is unjustly labelled a communist after having spent years working for them. You should read or listen to this book. Hopefully you won't find the beginning as droll as I did. I guess the Lacuna for me was between the first half and the second.

özlem Gürsoy ozlemgursoy — Man, this was adorable. Taran was adorable, Eilonwy was adorable, even the immense columns of death-wielding bad guys were adorable (well kinda). It kind of felt too short and too fast, but it is written for kids (probably more so than anything Riordan or Rowling has written), and keeps things epic without feeling bogged down in drama. On to book two!
