Coban's characters are so "real" and conversations flowed as though he transcribed a taped recording of people conversing. The mystery unfolded in pieces that didn't relate, but they did.

Natalia Moya nataliamoyamanns — ** spoiler alert ** I must be crazy... I actually *bought* this book, instead of waiting for its possible entry into one of the library systems. Yup, crazy. Yes, I was crazy. This was suck. Yet it was *still* better than "A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Read." It gets two stars instead of one because I got to see a very small sections from Lassiter's POV and because of the chapter with the mysterious FCC members forbidding the SBPD and Shawn and Gus from touching the tank. Otherwise, the plot was boring. Unlike in the first book, I was not rolling my eyes every few paragraphs, but I kept waiting for things to become clear, and that never happened. This author has a terrible sense of describing things; I can't visualize any of his descriptions. I had no idea what the hell he was talking about when it came to the "bubble suit", or even the "stick on TV technology". I was so confused when it finally came time to reveal what the hell had happened and who the hell was P'tol P'kol. And I absolutely despise books that drag me through boring nothingness only to have one last "sum up" chapter that's loaded with crap, making me ask why the hell this wasn't revealed to me as I was reading the whole freaking book. Lame.

Alex Skerlavaj delexws — This is a decent read on the history of the communications industry starting with the development of the telephone and then following the growth of the industry through the advent of radio, film, tv, cable tv, and the internet. The author shows how innovation occurred in each of these segments of the communications industry and how monopolies stymied growth at different points along the way. Much of the focus of the book is on the role AT&T played in dominating the telecommunications space, both before and after the company was forced to break up, and then trying to draw implications from it about monopoly power and industry innovation. In all, the book works as a history book (even down to the bland to slightly pedestrian writing) but for the most part fails when the author tries to link industry evolution into some kind of overarching model of “the cycle” which like most frameworks, doesn’t hold up in every case. That said, if you approach this as history, it’s a good enough read and gets you thinking about Google’s impending world domination (and see, that’s funny because Google already has accomplished world domination).
