Pascal Claivaz pascalclaivaz — ** spoiler alert ** I read the whole series in two days. It would've been less if hadn't been interrupted by work. When Kat and Franco talked about it, I thought they were exaggerating how good it was. They weren't. The world is somewhat predictable, the plot slightly less so. It's the characters and the details that make these books so amazing. The characters have human souls. All of them, even the supporting ones, even the evil ones. Even the main characters. They think and feel, act and react the way people do. None of them are perfect; it's the imperfections that make them so real. The girl on fire... It's funny: out of everyone in the books, Cinna is my favorite character, followed closely by Buttercup. It's easy to like Cinna because we see so little of him. And Buttercup... well, I cried when he showed up there in the end. For his look, as well as Katniss'. I blew through the first two books, unable to put them down. It was a hell of a ride and I loved it. The third book... The third book, despite being a seamless continuation of the first two, was something completely different. It felt bleak. It felt hopeless. And yet in the end... in the end there are children playing on the Meadow. In the end there is the girl on fire and the boy with the bread and dandelions. Hope. For a better future maybe. For some kind of peace. For evolution of the human race. Hope that this time it really does stick. I don't know. I don't have much faith in humanity. But I think they may get a few hundred years with no Hunger Games. Nothing's perfect; there will still be the rich and the poor, someone will still have to work in the mines and the sewers, there is always going to be greed and ambition and corruption. But there is also always going to be courage and loyalty and love. Katniss will have her nightmares, but she will also have her children and the knowledge that for them Hunger Games will be something they learn about in history books. That's something, right? Overall, these book are very, very good. And while they are "young adult" literature, I think the emphasis should really be on "adult". Which is to say, I loved them and was impressed by them and will keep thinking about them the way I rarely do about books once I finish them.

scj
Scott Johnson scj — If I remember correctly, Melody Carlson references Christianity a lot in her books. This was no exception. The references are not too invasive, and overall the story was a very good read. I read it in one sitting! Would be off-putting for those who don't like mention of religion, but for those who do, all power to you! I did feel that it was somewhat unrealistic, and I couldn't really connect with the character very much. I was apathetic towards her. But, because I don't want a spoiler review, I will say that Wes turns out to be a really good guy. A short sweet read for anyone who has an hour or two on their hands.

Su Man atinayue6f1 — My admiration for the author's writing. Wonder how he could put his most simple and complex of thoughts on paper. Writers mostly are hypocrites and Richard Bach is no exception. You can preach to others but not mandatory that you follow. Would recommend this book to anyone who feels lonely and lost at the moment.

Danielle Aspitz _ani_ose — This one's fun... Ken and his friends get involved in "helping" Mongoose (the good guys) catch Cobra (the bad guys) before something awful happens to Miami. Orv's inventions and the fun writing style make this one memorable. Enjoyed it, though it's quite improbable. :)
