Nancie Laing _ic_ancie_aing — I'm giving Hot Finish 3 stars. It would probably have been less, but I don't want to torpedo the book's rating. The main reason I feel this way is the book's very first sex scene. I didn't like it. I would go so far as saying it affected my opinion of the characters. It's not that I thought they weren't a good match, but I didn't want to hang out with them. I didn't have a problem with Suz or Ryder in the first two books, but their interactions here rubbed me entirely the wrong way. Ryder calls Suz a 'sexy bitch' after oral sex and McCarthy writes: "And he used to call her sexy bitch all the time. It was a term of endearment some women might not like, but she loved it. It had told her that Ryder got her and her sense of humor, and he always said it with a grin, a satisfied smile, or an indulgent exasperation." -page 110 This is one of those times when I understand what the character is trying to convey, but I don't get it. I don't understand it. I think it's demeaning and it doesn't even happen again, although they have sex multiple times later on in the book. So why include it at all? In addition, I found the sex scene between pages 113-119 to be jarring. I think the problem was that Suz and Ryder are basically an established couple. Sure, they're trying to find their way back to each other, but they already have a comfort level as a couple that allows them to be, um, a tad more raunchier than you would expect to find in a non-erotica romance. Their communication throughout the book was awful. Suz was very defensive and seemed to treat Ryder worse than he deserved. Ryder seemed bewildered most of the time, like he had no idea what would set Suz off or what to do about it. And I'm sorry, and maybe it's because I'm single, but (view spoiler) Hot Finish follows the other two books chronologically, so it takes place during NASCAR's off-season. I didn't know NASCAR had an off-season and I also don't know what "intensive training for Daytona" (pg.39) entails. I would've liked to find out. Aside from Ryder's profession as a driver, there was really no other 'sporty' element to the book. It's disappointing all around, but I'm willing to acknowledge that maybe after the awesomeness that was Hard and Fast, Hot Finish simply couldn't measure up.

Jihad Jilwan _i_ilwan — This book is an effort by two LDS historians to write a comprehensive history of the church that could be used as a college text or for those interested in a one volume study of the church. It is somewhat dated having been written in the 1970's or 80's. I really enjoyed it because although it was an academic study they included lots of anecdotes from journals and personal histories to illustrate the topics being discussed. Although there wasn't a lot of new information, they organized the book around themes and not just a straight chronological history. The themes covered topics like the 19th century ward and women in the church. The authors were both professional historians and tried to maintain an evenhanded approach in addressing the issues while using their church membership to provide insights that non-members might not have. I would recommend it for someone interested in an a basic retelling of church history from an academic perspective.

Beatrice Szabadi _eatrice_zabadi — The key characters and other characters involved in the story "Callie For President" Were Callie, Max, Fish, Brianna Blake, Gerald, Mr.Hamilton, and Briannas two bestfriends. But the main characters in the story were Callie, Max, Fish and Brianna Blake. Callie was an average 8th grader who attended Susan B. Anthony Middle School. She wasnt't like most kids in their school she wasn't reconized by any one in school. She was unpopular and people didn't talk to her. She Wasn't Good At anything. But Callie Wasn't alone in school. Callie had her two bestfriends Max and Fish Who were also 8th graders and attended Susan B. Anthony Middle school. Max and Fish were just like Callie. They both were unpopular and people didnt talk to them. It was like they all were invisible in school. Brianna Blake on the other hand was nothing like Callie, Fish or Max. She was beautiful and blonde. She was the most popular girl in school and everybody liked her. The key points in this story is when Callie, Max and fish were standing beside their locker abd Brianna Blake approached them and she started talking to them like they had been friends forever. Brianna then started to talking to fish and she asked him if he would like to be her campaign manager and Fish replied yes. Callie and Max were very angry when fish said he'll do it. Brianna then left. Later that day i Mr.Hamiltons class it was time for class president nominations and of course Brianna Blake was nominated and no one wanted to rub against her. All of a sudden Max and Fish decided to nominate Callie and she got very upset. When it was time for campaign week fish was with Brianna and Max helped Callie. Callie knew there was no way she could win against Brianna but Max helped her in believing she can. Campaing week started and Max and Callie were doing good with all the brownies and cookies they gave out. But they couldn't compare to Brianna who had a celebrity perform to the whole school telling everyone to vote for her. From what I read so far I think that the authors audience for this book will be for kids in the 8th grade and or kids who are not very popular in school and want to make a difference in their school. Also someone who is young and wants to run in an student election but doesn't think that they can win. Because in the book it talks abouth 8th grade students.and how Callie doubts her ability to win the student election. The authors message to the readers may be don't doubt yourself in something you may want to do just because you feel like you want win or something.

Hadassah Levy _adassah — I think this book is long out of print. But I loved reading it several times. Hearon was one of my favorite authors who was later discovered and was popular for a while. I like her earlier books.

Tai Le mtailec91e — Without a strong Austen background, this book is sort of uninteresting (though maybe there's not the parallels I imagine there are). I found all of the characters quite bland and didn't really care what happened to them. Perhaps I would have gotten more out of this book had I recently read more Jane Austen recently, bit is an easy, light read that actual Austenites will probably enjoy.
