Francisco Aranda farandal — This book should be required reading in every high school in the country. It takes the theory of evolution and presents it in a way that is accessible to the general public. If you have had much post-secondary education in the biological sciences, you may not want to bother with this one; the concepts may seem elementary and you may grow bored. Don't be too quick to dismiss it, though, as Dawkins' writing is both fun and easy to read. The text has become very slightly dated after 20+ years (i.e., references to those newfangled CD contraptions), but the concepts are timeless.

Nacho Varone nachovarone — My kids (age 4 and 7) and I listened to this on the commute to and from my daughter’s school. They seemed to enjoy them, and I did too – they take me back to the day of exchanging scary camp fire stories with friends. It’s a multicultural collection, but not just for the sake of being multicultural. It’s an eclectic selection of notable folktales - not so much scary as creepy - from around the world. The reader could have been more interesting, but he’s not bad. I agree with my daughter that the introduction was boring, and we should have skipped straight to the tales. They are indeed predictable, as are scary stories in general. They may be a little too scary for many children under 8, though they were in the children’s section of my library, and my children liked them, provided we did not listen to them at night.
