Ted Chiang is a remarkable writer who takes interesting concepts - mostly in science but also relating to religion, language, all the big things - and weaves them into polished gems of stories that both move you and make you think. "What if" scenarios develop into fascinating tales, and it is his immense skill that throws the reader immediately into a situation like yet unlike the world we know. I could mention some of the story concepts but it would never do them justice. Read it!

SMeyer wants to be her); we all have confidence issues, especially at her age, but her constant whining went over the line into the realm of annoying and obnoxious. It's difficult for me to enjoy a book if I despise the main character, the supposed protagonist, and I despised Bella. The rest of the cast was no different. Did you know vampires sparkle? Maybe he's born with it... maybe it's Maybelline.
