Asrika Vw actrika94fa — ** spoiler alert ** This book is another fine novel by Michael Chabon. However, at this stage of his career I now end up comparing the reading experience to other Chabons I've read, and this is not at the top of the list. I like the story very much, the comic book industry serves as an excellent backdrop for Chabon to develop and explore the central characters of the novel. The book is at its most compelling when focused around Josef Kavalier's attempts to free his family (specifically his little brother) from the Holocaust. But Chabon does not limit his ambitions to this theme or character; instead, we are also dealing in detail with Sam Clay's coming to terms with his homosexuality and Rosa Saks's frustrated love and career path. The book sprawls over 650 pages, and I really felt ready for it to be over about 100 pages from the end. It wasn't that the plot couldn't keep the book moving along; I just reached the point where I was done with the characters far before the book ended. That's unfortunate, given the quality of the writing and the strength of the first half of the book. For my taste, the book could have been improved by tightening the work to 400 pages or so. Having said that, there's a lot of vintage Chabon here. The descriptive passages are tremendous, and he writes a humorous passage as well as any current author.

Francesco Mazzi francescomazzi — Alice's Adventures in Wonderland had me laughing out loud. A week later, I still cannot get the image of a sleepy dormouse being stuffed into a teapot out of my mind. At times, I would read aloud the most humorous parts of the book to mi esposo because I had to share the cattiest lines with someone. We had no idea Wonderland was full of such misanthropes. Through the Looking-Glass is definitely not as energetic or amusing as the first book, but it's still good. I can't believe I didn't read these as a kid or sit through any of the many adaptations. I see that Martin Short was the Mad Hatter at one point and that Marilyn Manson is doing something with this now? Jeebus. My only frames of reference were that Tom Petty video and a hair salon in town called the Mod Hatter. What a shame. Every kid should read this.

Jahnavi Seydlitz _ah_navi — I am a huge fan of this author duo. I am a huge fan of the Cut & Run series and this book is just as good. There is so much romantic tension in this story it gives you the butterflies in your tummy, oooh I love that in a book!
