Rajat Gohatre rgohatre9051 — Even if only half of the info in this book is true, it's an amazing tale of greed and egotism. Hubbard is a model for scam artists everywhere. The absurdity of this man's life made me angry. Awesome read for those who know a bit about scientology as it operates now. Good read for those who've heard about Hubbard and maybe think that Cruise is on the right path - think again!

_arshin
Sarshin Sobhani _arshin — I waited for this book for so long and I really liked it. Jessica had a tendency to whine for most of the beginning about how things were so hard and it was annoying how she just used to stand behind Lucius relying upon him too heavily, but I believe this was intended for Jessica to be so unlikeable, so you can see the natural progression from this girl who was completely out of her element to a ruler. I loved how she stepped up and took control when Lucius was detained, even though Lucius wasn't really in the book very much, his presence was still felt throughout and the reader still got glimpses of their life together, which I loved. A lot of people complain that it is a negative that Lucius isn't in the book very much, but I felt that it was necessary, because I think the book focuses mostly on Jessica's personal growth as an adult than the young girl who wanted to run away from her problems and hide behind her husband. Also Mindy and Raniero, Lucius's cousin play a pivotal role in Lucius's exoneration as well. Overall, a fantastic sequel.

timwatersdigital
Timothy Waters timwatersdigital — A medieval nun and a mercenary. A Japanese glass blower and a farm boy. An Italian iron monger and his wife. A Viking warrior and an orphan. A Victorian society lady and a farmer. A severely burned pornographer and a schizophrenic sculptress. Love that endures through the centuries. When a beautiful, drug-abusing adult film star is severely burned in a freak car accident, his charred outer body finally mirrors the cynical soul within. Laying in his hospital bed devising his own suicide, the last thing he expects is to be visited by a fellow patient who claims to have been his lover in medieval Germany. Marianne Engel persists in bringing him tales of their history together, until his yearning for death is replaced by the blossoming of quite a different feeling in his pain-wracked soul. Covering hundreds of years and thousands of miles, Marianne Engel's tales of love's adversity and redemption help the unnamed narrator's soul to heal in a way his body never could. A fascinating choice for book clubs, The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson delves deep into the natures of love and the soul. I listened to this book in the car, but found I had to avoid times when the kids were around, as there is a great deal of graphic and explicit language.

redbull_cr33eb
Alan Araujo redbull_cr33eb — Not my favorite of her novels. Don't get me wrong; I LOVE her style, her voice, her characters, and the way she writes. I love WHAT she writes, time and again! The setting in this novel was very realistic in the beginning and middle. what happened during the war was spot-ON, and the characters were amazing. the research the author did for this time-period made me SO happy! but... the ending was all wrong. there was NO WAY someone would make the decision one of the sisters did, not in real life.. no matter what!! I just don't think that could/would happen. Sorry... I mean, these sisters really loved each other, no matter how much fighting they did, true. But to give up something that means SO MUCH to you, just to make another happy? Even to keep them alive...? Nope, I don't think so. Not only would this decision NOT have cleared things up completely, as is seemed to in this novel, but there would have been some residual mental issues. Possibly even bad repercussions!! People have feelings, and a decision like this would have effected everyone, very badly, in the entire family. I don't see how the father allowed it, and no one saw through her reasoning! The way the sister made everyone go along with her decision was completely left out of the book, as well. Possibly, IMHO, because there's no way she could have made everyone else go along with it, irregardless. NO argument would have been enough. None. --And then, 60 years were skipped; NOT FAIR, Mrs/ Berg!! I do still recommend this novel, for all those who love this era, or would love to learn more about it. But when you read this novel, for goodness sakes, bring a box of kleenex! I teared up off and on throughout the entire thing. WOW, so heartfelt and sad, but wonderful.... until the ending. lol

Aaaaaa Ttttttt atatatatat2a7c — While this wasn't my favorite Sarah Dessen. I didn't hate it. Many people had been telling me to read this book, so I did. I thought the subject was much heavier than the other novels I had read, and part of me hated reading about the subject matter (as to not include spoilers). It is a topic that should be known about and should be confronted. I thought it was a good book, and it kept my attention!
