Nadhem Saadi _aadi_adhem — I've had the author's other book Life As We Knew It on my to-read list for a while now, so when I went to the library and saw its companion book, The Dead & The Gone staring me in the face, I picked it up. It started out a little rough. I thought the author's writing style was a little bit elementary (i.e. "he did this. then he said 'blah.' then she said 'blah'.") and the characters fell flat, but once the action started moving I was interested in how Pfeffer was going to paint her apocalyptic NYC landscape. Tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, famine, volcanic eruptions and disease decimate everything, but unfortunately, I was not feeling the effects of the disaster along with the main character. Instead I kept wondering, you're going to church AGAIN? NOW?.

Mike Brown photagmikeb — I loved the history in this book about a part of the world I knew absolutely nothing about. It moved way too slow for me though and had a lot of sexual references.
