Lana Sheehan _ana_esign — Silvia C. 2/27/11 Book Review Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan The Joy Luck Club was an inspiring novel about people, (Chinese women) sharing stories and struggles about their lives in a group, called the "Joy Luck Club." The book had very intense stories, for example, a mother of a young girl who died, a girl leaving China to go to America to raise a daughter, a young girl getting married at sixteen and being extremely unhappy, and much more. Even though some people seem to like this book, I actually did not enjoy it. I'm normally a fan of Chinese novels, but this one, I didn't like. For me, it was really confusing, and it switched a lot between the past and present. I like it when books do that, but the transition between the past and present wasn't good, well, to me at least. Another thing I did not like about this book was it didn't interest me that much. Sure, some parts were interesting, but it just wasn't interesting enough for me. I'm really hard to please when it comes to books, so I didn't find it surprising when I realized I didn't like this book. If I were to recommend this book to someone, I would recommend to someone who likes slow-ish books. That was another thing I didn't like about this book, it was just too slow for me. I'd also recommend it to young adults and high schoolers. For someone younger then 14 to read this book, it'd just be too overwhelming for them, in my opinion. I was overwhelmed while reading it, there was just so much to remember. I'm hoping the next person who reads this book will enjoy it!
