Profesör - John Katzenbach PSİKO ANALİST’İN YAZARINDAN AKLININ SANA OYNADIĞI OYUNA NE KADAR DİRENEBİLİRSİN? Psikoloji profesörü Adrian yakında hafızasını kaybedip öleceğini öğrenir. O an aklında tek bir düşünce vardır: Eve gidip hayatına kendi eleriyle son vermek.
Adrian Zieliński boskiadrian — If you can ignore the whole racism/longing for the time of slaves thing, it's a ripping good tale with mostly interesting characters. But since that's a large part of the story...I realize the author grew up in another era, etc, but still, some of her opinions (or her characters' opinions) make me downright uncomfortable. The book glamorizes slavery.

Harshit Tiwari harshitt5642bd — Mary Gaitskill is one of my favorite authors. Her stories and novels are frightening, dark, and revealing. Her characters are often cruel, scared, ugly, and in pain. But they also seem familiar somehow, and sympathetic even when they should be unlikeable. Gaitskill's "girls" in this novel are developed through vignettes about their childhoods interspersed with present interactions between themselves and with others. I love this book especially for its satire of Ayn Rand (Anna Granite) and Objectivism (Definitism); Justine, a Manhattan journalist, and Dorothy, a former follower of Definitism, meet when Justine begins working on a research article on the movement. Like other Gaitskill characters, the tenuous relationship between Justine and Dorothy, both of whom seem to clearly self-identify as straight, has queer overtones. One review states that this book shows, once again, "how family fucks you up." Beyond that, I think this book is about how adults (from fucked up families or not) can become so isolated and the ways that they try to compensate for scarce emotional connections.

Ellu Yan kiderhun — I was appalled to find out my boyfriend made it through the American school system without reading this book.

_
Florence Institute _ — This book was engaging yet empty. The narrative was smooth and I felt connected with the characters, but at the end of the book I felt like the entire novel was a pointless exercise.

jenni_weric082
Jennifer Lopez jenni_weric082 — ** spoiler alert ** Let me start by saying I'm always very wary of novels told in the first person. They're very hit or miss for me. First person gives a reader the opportunity to live inside of another person's mind, to experience a different life through their eyes. It's easier for a story to be much more personal when it is told in the first person, rather than in third person. I started this book with hardly any idea what it was about. I didn't know if people tended to like it or hate it and I didn't have any preconceived notions of what to expect. Now on to the book. Right from the beginning, I hated Holden. I found myself agreeing with some of the things he said and I could understand from the start that something wasn't quite right, but I hated him. He was a terrible narrator, which of course had the potential to make for an interesting storyline, except there was no story. It was endless repetition of the same main ideas, none of which were ever resolved because the book didn't go on that long. I did love Phoebe, but even then, I was disappointed in how Holden treated her. Still, parts that focused on her were the only ones that kept my attention. I guess what I mean to say is, I could have gotten the same things out of this book if the first few chapter were condensed, the middle was cut out, and the last three-four chapters were left alone.
