Naru Saito nullset — I've always like Robert Wagner. But I was thoroughly disappointed in this book. I kept wondering if this was a typical "Scott Eyman" book, as he's been a co-writer of countless celebrity autobiographies. This book was a true gossip-fest, but not in a good way. I really wasn't interested in every single woman he boinked - and there were many. And I also wasn't interested in the sexual proclivities of other movie stars or RJ's opinion on whether someone was gay or bi. His description of Henry Willson was particularly egregious: "I knew he was gay, although he wasn't mincy" & "he'd blown all his money, among other things...." Pretty condescending and unprofessional. And what about the story about RJ, Bob Mitchum, and Dick Powell hiring a girl to sit on a bench at an Air Force base without underpants on, and watching the reactions of all the men who walked by? He does say it was juvenile, and it was, but it's not a story that I would be proud to put in a book about my life. I did like the story about Barbara Stanwyck - interesting - but I think he could have penned a much better story without all the kiss-and-tell segments. I realize that RJ was a different generation than me, but being a gentleman is always in style. This book has knocked him down a peg or two in my opinion.

Brian Oesch brian0017 — The most difficult and informative history class I took in college was centered on slavery in Latin America. I've always been interested in the history of South America, and even though much of the course material wouldn't really help me if I ever taught a standard high school history course, this book was pretty informative, although it's almost as old as I am.

Henry Asafo _fe03 — Pretty heavy bias toward PR. I don't necessarily disagree with the philosophy of the book, I just wish it were a bit more balanced. Advertising takes the bad wrap all around in this one.

Muhammad Izzat _zzat — The history behind this novel is so compelling (horrible, but everyone should know about French complicity in rounding up Jews in WWII) but the story was just not all that well written, and pretty melodramatic. Lots of sentences like "She was stunned. She didn't know how to feel." Yes. Okay. Whatever. I did like the interweaving of the two stories in the book. I heard Kristin Scott Thomas on Fresh Air recently--she's apparently going to play the lead in the film version, and I'd watch her do just about anything, so we'll see how it translates--may be one of those rare books that's actually better on the screen. As long as there aren't awful voiceovers...
