Javier Alonso javierhincapie — Simplicity. A one day read (rather a few hours) that deserves to be read all at once. Every page begs a simple turn. It is like the delicate smell of the narcissus flower which leaves a refreshed sense of the love in the life of the reader. Don't misunderstand, I do love the bold and heavy flavors of German music, Russian Song, and some Spanish films. This book instead offers the happiness that allows sadness to exist. (It is the fourth movt. of Beethoven's Fifth) This book should not be taken as a philosophocal text and thus should be read from a fictional standpoint. Sure, some of the names and events match up with those is philosophical texts, but I think Hesse would be shamed to hear that some would stab his lovely little book in the back with such comments as "... philosophical texts lack the creativity that makes good prose," or, "It was boring and it moved too slow for comprehension..." PISH! To me this book makes no judgements and takes no stand, it doesn't shove it's weight and rub it in the reader's nose, it doesn't force you to turn it's pages. As simply as its size, it simply is.

Omar Habata 3omar7abata — I could probably give a quick synopsis of Ann Packer's latest offering SWIM BACK TO ME in five words...."it's about pain and loss". The pain involved is both physical and emotional and the loss is about every conceivable type of loss that leaves a gaping void in ones life from the loss of one's childhood, to the loss of a friend, a child, a spouse, a life-style, an unfulfilled dream....well you get the idea. While the author's writing style initially pulls you into each of the six stories it does not compensate for the unfulfilled feeling you get as a reader. There is truly no satisfactory resolution to any of the scenarios. It is as if the author were writing in her diary and relating events from her personal life experiences.......short little vignettes that unfold with no true beginning or end. Perhaps the reason Packer chose SWIM BACK TO ME as the title of her book is because the reader is left swimming in a sea of questions and must make it back to shore (and solutions) without any assistance from the writer. Guess that this reader is in dire need of some additional swimming lessons.

Eva Maria weinreiche36c1 — This was a fairly entertaining read. The story was pretty good but some parts were soooo dated, like their complete infamiliarity with the Internet. Also, I thought it was funny that she described people in L.A. wearing thong leotards while excercising. No one was doing that in LA in 1999 and no one would now...LOL.
