F M fmm0c8b — Though I didn't enjoy it as much as Mere Christianity or The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce was an interesting and thoughtful read. I have an unabashed, incredible love for C.S. Lewis, and he has been such a great comfort and help on my spiritual journey. Reading this book was no different. I believe the most interesting concept that I drew from the tale (for it really is a story) is the idea that those who inhabit Hell are those who have chosen not to enter Heaven. This simple idea has completely changed the way I think about the afterlife, and I owe it to Lewis and this book. It's absolutely worth reading.

Laura Trompowsky lauratrspb7b5 — I picked up this book because my library was having a bookgroup about it. I already knew that I like Bryson's writing style, so that wasn't a surprise. He's witty and interesting. I wanted more from this book, or maybe from his wanderings. Off the road, into the backcountry and I would have loved this book. Or even really getting to know people instead of offering vignettes and then leaving them. Oh well. It was just fine as far as books go and I did have fun reading it.
