Sébastien Girard darkpulse_motion — Worth its reputation. There are aspects of this story that keep you captivated while others feel a little too common, or maybe its that you'd really rather not know too many details about Joker, his charm is partially in the inability to truly comprehend his motives or world. All in all an amazing book though and I recommend getting the re-colored version, it gives it an entirely different mood.

Shaun Blair shauna93a — I wish I'd been the one to write this book. It's lucid, eminently readable, and a fascinating look at some of the ways the technologies of writing have shaped the way we think. Ong's work is a cornerstone for a project I'm working on now looking at other communication technologies and modes.

Olivia Sam olilivvia — Probably 3.5 stars... At first this was dire. I was interested in Adam's character from the beginning of The Highlander Series because of his all too brief cameo in Shadowfever. For me getting through these books has been about seeing the evolution of Adam Black. I didn't care for the Adam/Gabrielle romance. Not at all. It should have been funnier. (Guess I'll always be a Drustan/Gwen shipper). But the insight into where Moning's fae lore started developing into The Fever Series was quite exciting. This book was kind of what I had been expecting from the entire Highlander Series. Equal parts romance and lore. Where the other books have been a lot heavier on the romance - this one seemed to pay attention to both. I was quite annoyed with Adam's "mortal" transformation both times but for very different reasons. The first because it seemed very contrived to just plonk Adam in the body of his favoured Blacksmith glamour and the second because I really wanted him to stay immortal. Um... spoiler? More than give me background info on the Seelie and Unseelie realms this book seemed to confuse me a little in regards to timeline. Obviously I am to take The Fever Series as being set in the same world as The Highlander Series because of character crossovers but when exactly does Aobiheal go missing? How come the Unseelie King doesn't recognise her? And other pressing questions that I cannot think of right now? All this tells me is that I MUST go back and visit Mac, Jericho and the gang as soon as possible. While I had planned a re-read for the summer time I think now is as good a time as any to get my fever back on. Spell of the Highlander can wait. Are these books worth it just for the tiny Fever glimpses? It depends. If you like bodice-ripping/kilt-lifting (thanks Ciaran) romance then sure... have at it. If you're expecting Fever level awesome stay well clear lest these books tarnish your Moning idolisation.
