Gonçalo Belo goncalobeloworks — A tale of love and of self-discovery, set in a quintessential English village that's beautifully described. Major Pettigrew is on the surface thoroughly set in his ways, content with a comfortable, albeit somewhat lonely, life, and viewing change with suspicion. It's a life that will never be the same after he invites Jasmina Ali into it. We see the world, and the man himself, firmly through Major Pettigrew's eyes, which makes it all the more interesting as he gradually gains more and more self-awareness, and is forced into re-examining what he truly values That makes it all sound rather heavy, and consciously "worthy", which it most certainly is not. The author has a wonderfully light touch with her characters, and the book is well leavened with humour. People who initially appear almost as stock characters generally turn out to be far more complex and interesting. Until we've spent more time with them, we can no more assume that we really know these people than the Major himself can. The climax, with its unexpected (to me, at least) villain, contains quite a brilliant mix of the absurd and the truly chilling. And the ending has a satisfying and believable dose of piquancy mixed with its sweetness.

Jake Grace 1911681219e1c0 — I think I read this book when I was fourteen or fifteen, and I loved it. I think it's a good transitional novel. It's not quite a children's story, but good for those young teen years.

Brian Saetre briane609 — This book follows several trouble adolescents, each of them trying to find a way to cope with their individual issues. From pregnancy, drugs, gangs, abuse and more, these kids struggle to make correct decisions. Some of them find refuse at their friend Keesha’s house. Throughout this poem narrated book, each kid learns about how to cope with life. I like the idea of this book. I enjoy having a book deal with real life issues. It shows the highs and lows of different people’s lives. Although you could come from a great family, there are still challenges. What I did not like about this book is the format. It was hard to follow the story of each individual character. I would suggest this for a classroom setting because you could read it in class and be able to follow and study the characters more in depth.

Giulietta Grimaldi giuliettagrimaldi — Great book. I thought the plot was a bit confusing though, and this series is the second sci-fi series ive read, and enjoying. Although i would say HungerGames was a bit better, but this book has a different point of view that is also interesting. It made me think about how our society of children is really dependent of adults, and how our world can become very messed up if one day people 15 and above dissapear and the desition of how the world is going to be like lies in our young hands. It's very interesting... And I'm excited to read the next books.
