Tomasz Przyborowski tomaszprzyborowski — Despite the unfortunately off-putting title of this particular volume, Steele's "Near Space" universe is my pick as the best such series since Heinlein. It's a gritty and occasionally grim look at life and work in space in the near future. This book collects the short works that frame the novels. The three Diamondback Jack stories alone are worth the price of admision. Good stuff!

Hc Xu 97648003730e5 — I met John Michell a few times and liked him. A sort of elfin intellectual with a dash of mad professor. A kind and thoughtful man, very determined in pursuit of the answer to great puzzles. Some say that he was one of the real initiators of the whole Ancient Mysteries/New Age movement, and they must be right, surely, on the basis of View Over Atlantis alone (first published 1969). What strikes me now, reading the updated version of VoA, is how original and authentic a voice he had, how deeply serious and deeply interesting, even in a field now well-trodden. Part of the book gets a bit lost in a series of huge figures of the Great Pyramidical variety. As maybe he did himself, on occasion. But the first three chapters remain superb, and some of the Glastonbury stuff is extraordinary. A few people may have followed his column in Richard Ingram's 'Oldie' which ran for many years. I never read a bad one. John Michell died a couple of years ago, in his late 70s.

Apoorva George _poorva31_ennifer — I don't normally read biographies and had never heard of Lillie Langtry. So I have no idea what made me buy this book several years ago. But I rediscovered it on my bookshelves and gave it a read. It's interesting (but sad) to hear about the rougher edges of the upper crust Victorian society. And Lillie's life certainly displays the folly and muck along with the gilded living of the gentry and exciting times in the artistic community. But Lillie's meteoric rise based on her charm and beauty and her sordid descent make for a depressing read. Vanity, vanity. All is vanity.

Jesse Brioux jessebrioux — it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. we were supposed to read it for a communications class and thought it would be really bad and boring. i read it in a night and is actually a good book.

Shawal Pilati highspeedcat — I don't often give five full stars to books, but this one was fabulous. I loved the bold but loving approach to the topic of marriage and family in the view of the world vs. the view of the LDS Church. There were so many good points made in the book by Elder Hafen, adn I know it's changed my view of my marriage to my husband and inspired me to be a better wife and mother and to really take a stand to defend the family as described in the FAmily Proclamation. I highly recommend it. It's a great book to read in preparation for marriage and to strengthen your current marriage. It was especially refreshing to me to read this book becuase I have such a strong testimony of family, and it is so important to make and keep our families strong so it benefits our children, grandchildren, and so on.

Gabriela Zifferman gabrielazifferman — Read this book. Don't see the movie. The book in engaging and the author's neroticism is not so annoying. You have empathy for her and find her struggles interesting and not whiny like in the movie. Makes you want to take on such a challenge and think/cook outside the box.
