Drinking at the Movies is a graphic novel about leaving the safety of home for the big bad wolf - New York. She is funny, self-deprecating and slightly awesome. Read it last night in an hour or so - the joy of graphic novels.

Xinxian Wang xximokudbe7 — An unexpected find--- I picked this up from the graphic novel collection at my local library and hadn't expected to like it. In the end, I found myself quite taken with it. It's about family and loss and admitting to love and loyalty in a small country, a place where sudden violence can happen at any moment. An Israeli cabdriver searches for his estranged father, who may have been killed in a suicide bombing. He meets the much, much younger girl who was his father's girlfriend, and they try to negotiate finding out whether the boy's father really is dead...and a prickly attraction to one another. It's not story with any sentimentality or overt politics, but there's a lot to discover here. Very much worth recommending.

Fedorenko Anastasia fedorenkoa9337 — William Miller considered his greatest flaw to be his weakness. Growing up in a family of bodybuilders, and being a vegetarian, greatly plays on this. His life changes in three events - his mother dies, his step-mother moves in, and her daughter Lulu moves in as well. Here, William begins to defy his weakness as he begins to fall in love with Lulu. Unsure of why everyone frowns on them so much, considering they aren't blood-related, William continues to pursue Lulu. She lets him, and even goes a little further, until one summer she comes back from cheer leading camp- and William no longer means a thing to her. What happened that summer plagues William as he gets older, but he tries to slowly move away from the phenomenon that was Lulu. This book has some room for improvement, but it's a very good story. You feel and sympathize for William. You can almost feel the love for Lulu, and her cold rejection, leaping from the page. Jonathan Evison is a very skilled writer, considering the way he twists situations. This book is full of surprises - just when you think you know what will happen next, you're wrong. It's a stunning story, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a love story with flaws.
